Mount Kilimanjaro - This morning we will drive to the village of NaleMuru for the starting point of the Rongai route. The first stage of the trek is through farmland and pine forests.

You may have chance to see the beautiful Colobus monkeys or if you’re lucky enough, elephants or buffalos on route. Our first camp will be the Simba Camp located at the edge of the moorland zone at 2625m. With extensive views over the Kenyan plains.

Simba Camp To Rongai 2nd Cave Camp

Rongai 2nd Cave Camp To Kikelewe Camp

Mount Kilimanjaro - Leaving the pine forest behind, we carry on with a steady ascent walking though moorland. There are superb views of the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim of Kibo, the highest of the three volcanoes which form the mountain.

We will leave the main trail and strike out across moorland on a smaller path towards the jagged peaks of Mawenzi, the second of Kilimanjaro’s volcanoes. We will set up camp today in the sheltered valley near Kikelewa caves at 3630m

Kikelewe Campo To Mawenzi Tarn Hut

Mount Kilimanjaro - This morning we have a short but steep ascent up grassy slopes which is rewarded by a superb view of the Kenyan plains to the north.

We leave vegetation behind shortly before reaching our next camp at Mawenzi Tarn Hut directly below the towering cliffs of Mawenzi. This afternoon you have chance to rest or explore the surrounding area to aid acclimatization.

Additional Information

Rongai Route:

The Rongai trail is the sole path to Kilimanjaro on the northern side, near the Kenyan boundary. Despite its increasing popularity, Rongai sees fewer climbers.

This path is favored by those seeking a less congested alternative to the bustling Marangu route, those craving a more secluded adventure, or those scaling during the rainy period (the northern region gets less rain).

Six days is the minimum duration required for this trail, though a week is suggested. While the views are less diverse compared to the western paths, Rongai compensates by traversing through untouched wilderness for several days before meeting the Marangu trail at Kibo camp.

This trail exits through the Marangu route. Rongai is moderately challenging, and comes highly recommended, particularly for those with limited backpacking experience.

To the roof of Africa, exceeding my expectations in every way! - Me and my friend have been planning this trip for like a year, at first we are pretty nervous about climbing Kilimanjaro. Oscar have been a great help to us by answering all our questions in our Whatapps group. Furthermore, he reassured us that everything would be fine. We have 14 porters, 2 guides and 1 cook traveling with us. In term of service, I would say they exceed my expectations in every way, the porters are super friendly and helpful, anything we ask from them, they will took care of it. The guide, especially FC really know what he is doing. He is a real expert up there, most of the advice he gave us really proof to be helpful up there. Thank you again to Oscar and the team for making our dream of climbing the highest mountain in Africa came true! Keep up exceeding others expectations! : D

Celebrate our 8 Anniversary on the Top of Africa with Exceed Expectations Tours…. - My husband and I we booked a private tour with exceed tours for 7 days Rongai Route and then 5 days Safari to Serengeti and Tarangire. It was really an amazing and great… also hard and the tough things we ever did for a long time, climbing Kili made me so nervous and I hard to train both mentally and physical. Oscar were professional in preparing our mindset. We arrived at Kili and get a grate and warm welcome from Oscar personally and then do some formalities ready for the summit next morning. I can feel myself freezing on my husband hand… but at time I felt so confidence, the crew we have is the best guys I ever have, work hard and tireless to ensure we are going to make it… well after a number of days and sweat we were on the top celebrating the 14 years of my marriage. The next day we were ready to hit the road and go see the amazing Serengeti, wildlife and many more. Our days there seems to go so fast and we wished if we could stay for more days.

“Outstanding service with Exceed Expectations Tours!” - We are small group from Uk, climbed Kili through Rongai route and then went for 3 days budget Safari on April 2021. All along since the booking proces Oscar has been really great in customizing the tour following our needs, Mtei and the team were outstanding too! Everything was really professional since the first email booking process was really smooth. Exceed Tours had great care concern covid-19 measures. The communication for the entire trip was always accurate and effective. We had amazing experience in hiking, we also had professional guides, chef and porters. After kili we took 3 days safari to serengeti and ngorongoro the timing was perfect to spot the animal. Transfer from/to Kilimanjaro Airport was punctual, the food was good and delicious, accommodation for safari and kili were perfect. Another perfect experience during covid-19 with Exceed Expectations Tours in Tanzania.
