Tour Highlights:

Undeniably, the sea stacks at San Josef Bay are an awe-inspiring sight to behold. These sea stacks are among the few marine-weathered stacks on Vancouver Island, and undoubtedly, the most dramatic. The force of water, driving through sandy corridors at high tide, has gradually worn away the softer stone, leaving only the resilient structures in its wake. At certain locations, this phenomenon has resulted in the formation of the sea stacks - an extraordinary attribute, although commonly seen worldwide.

A magical summer day at San Josef Bay - Our visit to Cape Scott Provincial Park and San Josef Bay was the highlight of our visit to the top end of Vancouver Island. I highly recommend you stay two nights in Port Hardy, or other surrounding towns, so that you have a full day to access the park. We drove two hours each way on logging roads, to reach the park, but it was worth it. There is a picturesque 45 minute easy walk through the park to the beach. Be sure to visit around low tide so that you can see the beautiful sea stacks on the beach, with trees and other plant life growing out the top.

Wonderful experience - Brooks, our guide for the day, drove us through miles of bumpy roads, past several active logging sites to the trailhead leading to San Josef Bay. The hike to the Bay and the beach around the Bay are beautiful. Brooks knowledge and enthusiasm made the adventure memorable. Be ready for a few miles of bumpy road, but don't miss this experience.

Highlight of our vacation! - This tour was the highlight of our trip to north Vancouver Island! Brookes was an enthusiastic guide and June was just as passionate about her love of northern Vancouver Island. We couldn't drive the logging roads from Port Hardy to San Josef Bay with our rental car and we're glad we didn't. Instead, we relaxed and listened to interesting and entertaining stories on our way to the beach with a few stops along the way. The walk through the old growth forest was amazing, and the huge expanse of pristine sandy beaches with the gentle surf rolling in was awesome. Brookes and June let us take our time exploring the beaches and sea stacks. We had delicious sandwiches and fresh fruit for lunch. June gave me some helpful hints as I was taking pictures, and Brookes took us up a short trail to a great lookout. On the drive back, we stopped to take in the wonder of a massive Sitka Spruce. The scenery was incredible and our guides were fantasic. I highly recommend this tour.

Relaxing, No Stress Day Trip - I'm not sure how else my group and I would have made it out to experience the breath-taking San Josef Bay. To get to this remote beach, the tour starts with a drive through rugged, dusty and winding logging roads that no average vehicle would make without a flat tire (or two!). Once we arrived at the trailhead, we embarked on a casual hike on a well-maintained path through beautiful old growth forest. After 45 minutes or so of walking, you start to smell the ocean breeze and the forest opens up to the expansive sights of San Josef Bay beach where we were quickly guided to see the sea stacks and time-sensitive tidal pools before the tide came in. Once we covered the must-sees, we had independent time to enjoy lunch and explore the rest of the beach where my friends and I even took a quick, chilly dip in the ocean! A big thank you goes out to our delightful and charismatic guides, Chris and June. They made this trip a unique experience, shared their expert knowledge of the area, and most importantly ensured our safety throughout the entire drive and hike. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for an easy, relaxing, active outdoor day trip with no stress.

San Josef Bay the Ospray takes flight - Getting to the remote parts along the rutted dusty trail road with radio contact with logging trucks was and important part of experience. So many questions come to mind driving along and I really enjoyed learning and digging into what makes these remote areas tick. It fun chatting and learning with Chris and June who are passionate and respectful to this incredible place. The walking track in was very well groomed gravel trail and quite comfortable for an old dog like me. Watching the ospray hit the water. Did it catch a fish. I will never no but it was so cool to watch it return to the woods anticipating at any moment the fish would be seen clutched in its claws. The winter swells roll in the bay and I would love to see the surfers shoot along and have fun. Lunch we had a sandwhich in a cave. This was a fantastic tour and the guides worked over time to ensure we got the most from our experience

Taking amazing to the next level! - I cannot recommend Cove Adventure Tours highly enough. Chris and June took an incredible adventure to the next level with their genuine enthusiasm and knowledge. From explaining the logging process as we travelled the active logging roads, to anecdotes of local personalities, to spending time pointing out the incredible sea creatures that were visible due to an exceptionally low tide, their excitement in sharing the wonders of the northern island was infectious! Gracious hosts and ambassadors that made our trip a 14/10.
