Charleston Peak, also known as Nuvagantu in Southern Paiute, meaning ‘the place where snow resides’, or Nüpakatütün in Shoshoni, is the tallest mountain in the Spring Mountains and Clark County, with a height of 11,916 feet (3,632 m). It is located in Nevada, United States, and ranks as the eighth highest mountain in the state. Distinctly separated from surrounding higher peaks by vast, low-lying basins, Charleston Peak stands as the most topographically noticeable peak in Nevada, and holds the rank of eighth most prominent peak in the contiguous United States. It’s one of Nevada’s eight ultra-prominent peaks. Found approximately 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Las Vegas, it resides within the Mount Charleston Wilderness, part of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area in the Humboldt–Toiyabe National Forest.
