Unforgettable birthday celebration on Mount Kilimanjaro with knowledgeable and passionate Altezza Travel guides. - 1. Booking
I made an online enquiry and received prompt response from my Booking Manager (Irina). This led to a conversation where lots of vital information was shared and advice on routes to take and possible dates.
The booking itself was seamless with payment options to suit different individuals needs.
I was also given advice on the mandatory travel insurance with recommendations and airlines for flights, I really appreciate every effort taken to make my booking hassle free.
On booking confirmation packing list was shared to help with the preparation, really helped.
2. Arrival
Was thoroughly impressed by the airport pick up shuttle, well-marked name board with driver just outside arrivals area, no room for uncertainties at all. The bus is clean with refreshments (water).
The first good impression was the personalised welcome letter, on receiving that I knew for sure I was in good hands.
The hotel booked for pre and post climb was hospitable and highly tranquil.
We went through the bags with the manager who came to the hotel to check if we have packed the necessary things. What I did not appreciate is how it seemed like an exercise to get us to rent stuff as opposed to ensuring we have the right supplies.
3. Meet and greet
On day one I got to meet my fellow mountain questors and the guides who were going to be with us on the adventure. Strangers from different parts of the globe and we did introductions, it was a comfortable start.
4. Camping
Our guide Phil asked if the climb was a mission or vacation, when you have to kneel to go to sleep it is definitely a mission. LOL.
We had good camping spots and care was given by each and every crew member. I shared the tent and it was enough space for 2 people.
The bunny water bottles were good to help keep warm at night, very thoughtful.
Water was always available, warm for bathing and cold for drinking, one never had to worry about water supply during the 7 days out in the mountain.
A suggestion to have the portable toilet as part of the package instead of making it an extra for rental. The toilets in the camps are in a distasteful state and having that as part of the package and fee filtered into the booking amount would add to the good service offering from Altezza.
My excitement on spotting the yellow tents from a distance when approaching the camp is unexplainable. It meant we can tick off a day from the itinerary leading us closer and closer to our goal. Felt really good.
5. Food
Oh man, the food 😊.
We got served, properly. 3 well balanced meals a day, very delicious, with snacks and tea in between.
I’m a picky eater and was worried how I was gonna manage, was ready to surrender to eating what was on offer in order to get the sustenance needed by the body to carry me. I was able to skip the morning porridge and have the second serving of breakfast (bread, eggs, sausage, pancakes, fruits). Same applies to lunch and dinner, I was able to remove what I don’t like and still have a filling and nutritious meal.
The tea during the breaks along the trek were a pleasant part of our day. Tea/coffee and cakes made me feel at home.
6. Safety
The daily medical checks put my mind at ease knowing if there is anything alarming the team would pick it up in advance. Diamox was administered twice a day by the team as a preventative measure and I took it because I didn’t want to find myself in a compromised position because I thought I could withstand what could happen. Luckily I didn’t experience any signs of altitude sickness.
The mountain has its risks, small parts of the climb though, the team was there to guide and secure in potentially dangerous areas.
Altezza Travel has top tier guides.
7. Overall
Travelled from South Africa on my own to celebrate my birthday at Uhuru Peak and the team made it happen.
From day 1 I displayed signs of being slower than the rest of the group, I was never at any point made to feel insufficient, I was instead encouraged to keep the pace while slowly picking up in more comfortable terrains.
I got the outmost love and cheer from the whole team; I got to learn a bit of Swahili and when we exchanged greetings I could see that I connected with them on a personal level.
Although the whole team was introduced, I had daily encounters with a handful and I knew them by name, a big thank you to all of them including porters, tent and toilet handlers.
Special thanks our chef Frank and his team for the meals prepared, and the popcorn was the perfect snack. The wake up call from Tosha followed by coffee delivery made for a good start to the day, him and David really served us well.
Emanuel and his team were very hospitable around the camp site, was readily available to assist where necessary and I must mention the shoeshine service after the hike, (just took a sigh coz wow)!
When we attempted the summit the team was there every step of the way, it was tough, challenging mentally and physically, and was reminded that it was my birthday and I’m gonna see the most beautiful sunrise.
The team made my birthday extra special with cake, song and bubbly. I though being at the peak was the contentment I wanted for my day and the festivities made the day more memorable. Thank you to everyone, much love.
Lastly, the team that turns dreams into reality, the team that touches hearts, the team that got me and the group of 11 to the top. Thank you to Godfrey, Michael, Philemon, under the leadership of Shabani. Words cannot describe my gratitude for every step you took with me during the climb, they went above and beyond to make me reach the roof of Africa and having bragging rights where I come from 😁. Asante Sana

Choose Altezza for your Tanzania adventure - I had the absolute best experience planning our 7-person Tanzania group trip with Altezza. They helped us arrange both our Kilimanjaro climb and a 3-day luxury safari.
When I first started planning, I reached out to three different companies for the climb. Altezza immediately stood out for their responsiveness (special thanks to our travel expert, Polina!) and their professionalism. From the very beginning through to the end of the trip, everything was incredibly well-organized.
I successfully summited Kilimanjaro, and I credit a huge part of that achievement to the exceptional Altezza guides and crew. They took amazing care of us, and I always felt safe and confident in their expertise—especially during the challenging summit night.
Following the climb, we went on our safari, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The accommodations Altezza booked were stunning, the safari vehicle was spacious and comfortable (complete with surprisingly good WiFi!), and our guides were not only highly knowledgeable but also truly passionate about their work. We visited Arusha, Tarangire, and Ngorongoro National Parks, and each stop was unforgettable.
We did encounter a small misunderstanding with one of our accommodations during the trip, but Altezza resolved it quickly and professionally once I reached out.
Overall, my friends and I had an incredible time in Tanzania, and I genuinely believe Altezza played a huge role in making it such a success. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Kilimanjaro + Serengeti - Altezza was recommended to me by Elite Exped, the partners who organized our Kilimanjaro climb. They also made our dream of experiencing the Serengeti and all the wonders of Tanzania come true. Their work is extraordinary in every aspect. The entire team (especially Anastasia, who organized everything!), the logistics, food, accommodations, our safari guide (Daniel), and so much more were handled with great professionalism and care. I also appreciate their respect for the porters. Our hearts already miss Tanzania, and I’m certain we’ll return again with Altezza! You are incredible. Thank you so much, and see you next time

Stanford and his crew took special care of my husband who had low oxygen. They paid attention to everyone’s health and trekking speed. The team goes out of their way to ensure everyone was taken care of and comfortable.
I give high kudos to the entire team. It made for a special and very memorable trip in honor of my 60th bornday. I highly recommend Altezza!!

Altezza Travel delivers 5-star service, unforgettable hospitality, and you really are in the safest hand in Kilimanjaro - NOTE- This is an extremely long review- so grab yourself a drink, put your feet up and enjoy the read;
Altezza Travel delivers 5-star service, unforgettable hospitality, and — most importantly — peace of mind knowing you are in the safest hands possible.
From the very beginning, my booking manager Vita was simply fantastic. She was my first point of contact when I enquired about hiking Kilimanjaro, and she supported me all the way through until the very end — even helping with medical notes for my insurance after the trek. Vita was always contactable day or night via email or WhatsApp, responded quickly, and gave me complete confidence every step of the way.
From the moment I landed at Kilimanjaro airport, their professionalism and care were clear. Even when my luggage didn’t arrive with me, Erick from Altezza was there to greet me, reassure me, and made sure my bags were delivered later that same day.
On the mountain, the entire team was simply outstanding. Our lead guide Justin (JT) and his assistant Francis were exceptional — attentive, highly trained, and always putting safety first. Justin, who is also a medic, performed daily health checks and monitored everyone closely. When I became unwell, he didn’t hesitate to step in, lightening my load and later making the critical call that ultimately kept me safe. His summit assistant Jonathan was also a strong and supportive presence.
The wider crew went above and beyond in every way. Abedi the camp master, Laurence our brilliant chef, Faraji our ever-smiling waiter, Laurenth the dishwasher, and Sylvester who kept the toilet spotless — each contributed to making camp life comfortable and welcoming. The porters were incredible: strong, kind, and supportive, especially Gertrude, the only lady porter, who hiked back uphill from camp just to help carry my backpack when I was struggling. Her selflessness and strength will stay with me forever…. She made me cry with gratitude.
The food on the mountain was a highlight in itself. Chef Laurence prepared delicious, plentiful meals — and they were beautiful served by his waiter Faraji- from soups and fresh bread at lunch, to curries, pasta, grilled meats, even pizza for dinner. Breakfasts included porridge, pancakes, omelettes, and fresh fruit. Faraji set the table beautifully for every meal, complete with sauces, teas, coffee, hot chocolate, and even personalized mugs from Altezza as a keepsake. There was always afternoon tea with cake or biscuits waiting after a long day’s hike, and each evening ended with hot water bottles (“Altezza bunnies”) to warm the tents — a thoughtful touch that shows how much they care.
The wider crew ( we had a total of 18 staff to 2 people) went above and beyond to make camp life both comfortable and memorable:
• Abedi, our camp master (and shoe shiner!)
• Laurence, a brilliant chef whose meals were as delicious as they were plentiful — from soups and curries to pizza on the mountain
• Faraji, our ever-smiling waiter, who set a beautifully prepared table for every meal, complete with sauces, teas, coffee, hot chocolate, and even personalized mugs (a keepsake I’ll treasure)
• Laurenth, who kept everything spotless as dishwasher
• Sylvester, who maintained a spotless toilet tent
And of course, the incredible porters, who carried everything we needed and did it all with strength and good spirit. A very special mention must go to Gertrude, the only lady porter, who hiked uphill for hours just to carry my bag when I was struggling — her kindness and strength moved me to tears. Alongside her, I want to thank Hassan, Hilary Swai, Daudi Masaki, Zakayo Charles Musa, Godwin Kenned Msele, Ibrahim Awadhi Ulomi, Imanuel Nkya, Donald Matsumoto, and Frolian (FB).
Most importantly, when I developed High-Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) on day five, Altezza’s safety protocols proved lifesaving. Justin ( JT ) quickly identified the problem, coordinated with the ground team, and arranged a helicopter evacuation. Altezza handled all the insurance communication, and I was never left alone — Justin stayed with me until I was airlifted, and once I landed, I was met at the hospital by Zainab from Altezza, who stayed by my side through the entire hospital process. After treatment, Erick and Zainab escorted me back to the hotel, ensuring I was safe and cared for.
The Aishi Machame Hotel I stayed here for two nights before my hike and one night afterwards, and it was the perfect start and finish to my Kilimanjaro adventure.
The hotel itself is beautiful and exceptionally clean, with a peaceful atmosphere that makes it ideal for both preparation and recovery. The reception staff were outstanding — always welcoming, courteous, and ready to help with anything I needed.
The food and service were excellent throughout my stay, with attentive staff and delicious meals that made me feel well looked after. Everything about Aishi Machame reflects the same high standards of care and professionalism that Altezza delivers on the mountain.
I would highly recommend staying here to anyone climbing Kilimanjaro — it is the perfect base before and after your trek.
From start to finish, Altezza’s attention to detail, incredible staff, and world-class safety protocols made all the difference. They are not just a trekking company — they are a professional, compassionate, and highly organized team that puts their clients’ wellbeing first in every situation.
If you are considering climbing Kilimanjaro, look no further. Altezza Travel delivers 5-star service, unforgettable hospitality, and — most importantly — peace of mind knowing you are in the safest hands possible.

The best team to take us to the top 🗻🥾 - Altezza was the best decision I made. I submitted in September 2025 and won’t have been able to without the guides and porters from Altezza. Special thanks to our guides Albert, Batch and Usmaan. The porters and all others including cook and others were excellent. The whole team had us taken care of the whole 6 days. Summit night wouldn’t have been possible without the guides and assistant guides. They knew what we needed without us saying anything. Food was great and our comfort and safety was their number one concern.

Helpful hands everywhere - Every single member of the guide staff is so helpful! I hurt my knee on day two of the hike, and if it weren’t for the help of the guides, I probably couldn’t have made it. Really moving experience

Amazing Kilimanjaro Hiking Experience - Climbing Kilimanjaro with the Altezza Starling team in August 2025 was one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. I arrived nervous about the 7-day trek and summit attempt, but this incredible team made the journey possible and unforgettable.
Our chief guide, Elia, led with organization, encouragement, and positivity, while Innocent, William, and Amos were constant sources of support—motivating us, checking gear, setting the right pace, and ensuring we were safe throughout the climb. Their leadership carried us to Uhuru Peak.
The hospitality was beyond expectations. Baraca and Davide Moshi kept spirits high with their service, songs, and kindness, while chefs Sabas and Rizwan amazed us daily with delicious meals and surprises like pizza and cake at camp. The summit assistants and camp crew worked tirelessly in the background, from securing tents in strong winds to guiding us during the most challenging moments.
What stood out most was the sense of family and community within the 50-person Altezza team. Their professionalism, care, and genuine warmth created an environment where every trekker could succeed. I am deeply grateful to each of them for making this adventure both possible and unforgettable.
