ARRIVAL
Altezza Travel - Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), an Altezza Travel representative will greet you and arrange your transfer to the hotel included in your package. The hotel offers all the essentials for a pleasant stay: comfortable rooms, hot water, courteous staff, a swimming pool, and Internet access. In the evening, there will be a briefing with our managers to ensure you are prepared to start the climb.
Note: Check-in begins at 2:00 PM.
TREKKING FROM NALEMURU GATE TO SIMBA CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - In the morning, a guide and mountain support team will arrive at the hotel to meet you and conduct a brief orientation. You will then travel by vehicle to the northern entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park: Nalemuru Gate (2,020 m). After the quick formalities of obtaining climbing permits and registering with the search and rescue service, the group will begin trekking to Simba Camp (2,625 m). This day’s trek is moderate and takes you through a coniferous forest on Kilimanjaro’s northern slope. Remember to maintain a comfortable pace. Upon reaching the camp, our professional mountain crew will set up everything necessary, including tents and dinner preparation.
This will be your first day at this altitude, so it is highly recommended to follow these instructions from this point on:
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine
- Drink over 4 liters of bottled water daily (in small, frequent amounts)
- Take a Diamox pill to help alleviate altitude sickness symptoms. Most climbers take Diamox in the morning before starting their ascent to reduce discomfort associated with altitude sickness. We recommend consulting your doctor before the trip in case of potential allergies.
At night, you may experience discomfort due to acclimatization to the high altitude: because of a reduction in your waking breathing pattern, your body receives less oxygen than during the day. Considering the altitude, you may start feeling unwell and have a headache. Pay attention to your body and inform your guide if you experience any symptoms of altitude sickness.
TREKKING FROM SIMBA CAMP TO KIKILEWA CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - Early in the morning after breakfast, the group will leave Simba Camp to begin trekking towards your second high-altitude camp: Kikilewa Camp (3,630 m), where you can enjoy a view of Kibo Volcano at its best (weather permitting). This trek is more physically demanding than the previous one, so full rest is recommended once you reach the camp.
TREKKING FROM KIKILEWA CAMP TO MAWENZI TARN CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - An early start with breakfast, followed by trekking to Mawenzi Tarn Camp, located at the base of Mawenzi Volcano, Kilimanjaro’s second summit. Upon arrival at the camp, you will have lunch and a two-hour rest, followed by an acclimatization hike towards Mawenzi Volcano with a 200-meter altitude gain, then return to Mawenzi Tarn Camp for dinner in the evening.
Note: The acclimatization hike is an easy trek with a slight altitude gain to expedite the acclimatization process. Taking these hikes seriously is crucial as they enhance your chances of successfully summiting Kilimanjaro and protect you from altitude sickness.
TREKKING FROM MAWENZI TARN CAMP TO SCHOOL HUT CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - This day involves trekking towards School Hut Camp (4,715 m). The landscape will change significantly to a rocky semi-desert. The trek itself is not very challenging; just remember to maintain a suitable pace to conserve energy for the trek to Kilimanjaro’s summit. Upon reaching the camp, it is advisable to rest well, avoid strenuous activities, and stay hydrated, as you will be ascending Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) that night.
TREKKING TO UHURU PEAK AND DESCENT TO HOROMBO CAMP
Mount Kilimanjaro - Departing at night from School Hut Camp (4,715 m), you will begin your trek to Kilimanjaro’s summit: Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). The trek is moderate in terms of physical exertion, but the altitude poses a more significant challenge. Each pair of climbers will be accompanied by a guide who will monitor your stamina and mental resolve. After successfully reaching Uhuru Peak, you may descend to the nearest glacier if desired. Then, return to Kibo Camp and, after a two-hour rest, continue your descent to Horombo Camp (3,720 m).
Note: Remember that 90% of all accidents occur during the descent, including all broken arms and legs. Please be mindful of your footing, as there is a high risk of damaging your toenails.
DESCENT FROM HOROMBO CAMP TO MARANGU GATE
Mount Kilimanjaro - A warm breakfast will be provided in the morning, after which the group will head to the exit of Kilimanjaro National Park: Marangu Gate (1,860 m). After your descent, the entire group will gather to celebrate your achievement, and you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts on the trip in the guestbook. Finally, you will receive your commemorative certificates (at our office) and be transferred back to the hotel.
