The Uluguru Mountains forms part of the Eastern Arc Mountains (EAM), stretching from the Taita Hills in southern Kenya to the Udzungwa Mountains in the heart of Tanzania. Occupying the core of the Eastern Arc Mountains, the Uluguru range covers an expanse of 241 square kilometers ( 24,115.09 Ha), enclosed within a boundary of 197km. Its establishment in 2008 was aimed at preserving the distinct ecosystem and safeguarding its unique biodiversity for future generations. It was designated as a Nature Reserve on 7/11/2008.
Mikumi’s landscape is often likened to that park, which is divided into two distinct sections. The northwest region is marked by the Mkata river basin’s alluvial plain. The flora of this part is characterized by a Savanna sprinkled with acacia, baobab, tamarinds, and some unusual palm.
