Great introduction to the city - Montreal is a big city so we started our visit by doing the full ride on the bus before staying on again and getting off near the river. It's a great way to work out where things are and the distances between them. The ticket is valid for 48hrs so the next day, we used it to get to the places we'd decided we wanted to investigate a bit more.

Replacement bus service! - We have done hop on/off buses all over the world and was looking forward to another in Montreal but had finished for the season! However, we were lucky to have arrived at the starting point at 1030h and was told there was a 3h coach tour of the city as a winter replacement for the hop on/off tour. We decided to go for this and the tour was very good including a walking part by the cathedral and stops near the olympic park and Mount Royal for photos. The live commentary was bilingual and very informative. We got a good overview of the city and was quite reasonable value for a 3h tour.

Best opportunity for an overview of any city - Hopon/Hopoff is an excellent opportunity to capture an overall view of any large city. We have used it multiple times to plan day visits to historic or interesting sites. This experience provided that with two exceptions. First, there were no signs identifying the dropoff/pickup point. This would aid in singling out the location to return to or meet at. Second, At one destination, the road to the Oratory was closed with no identifying alternatives, signs or guides to direct us to an alternative entrance. As a result, we waited for a pickup bus that was significantly delayed due to road construction & traffic congestion. The guide on the second pickup bus pointed out an alternative route which, by then, was too late in our itinerary. All guides should be aware of alternative entry points to a tour if some are blocked or under construction. This would have made our excursion complete for the list of sites to see.

Well worth doing - We went on a tour on Wednesday 18th with Francois and Dominic which was great. Francois knew the city and made it interesting and informative, Well worth it. Did the 2nd tour today which was the opposite. Got on the bus at 14.30 in Dorchester Square and the guide didn't point out many historical spots or give a history of them. Spoke alot about himself and very little about what we were seeing, didn't even mention that at Crescent if we looked left we could see the Leonard Cohen mural. Full marks to Francois nil points today.

Some Better Information on Bus-Stops is Required to Make This Worthwhile - Once we found where we had to be to board the bus and were actually on the tour, it wasn't too bad, but we did struggle initially and even a stop in at the local information tour desk could not help us as to where we needed to be/how to pay, etc. The commentary was good and the buses are old London double-deckers which is a bit cute, but not very comfortable, particularly for the elderly I would imagine. All in all, for the expense, I'd give it a miss and find your way about the city some other way. I wasn't up to walking on the day we went but we ended up walking around so much to find the buses that it affected our enjoyment of the day as a whole.

Good, not great! - This hop on hop-on-hop-off bus tour is great in theory, but it was a bit confusing in practice. You definitely need the full 2 days to take advantage. It takes a long time for pick-ups between stops, so it would be a struggle to plan anything else between stops. There are multiple buses. One was great, newer with a fantastic sound system so the tour quality was good. One was older so it was very hard to hear the tour and the commentary about where you were. It was also very busy so you couldn't always get on the first bus that stopped, which is tricky with so much time in between pickups. Definitely do your research before doing this in order to make the most of your time.

Bad experience with Montreal Hop-on Hop-off tour. - Busses were always late or did not come at all. English spoken by the tour guide was horrible. Will not choose nor recommend a Hop-on Hop-off again in Montreal.

Good overview of Montreal - The bus was just okay. I expected the guides to give us more information about the specific points of interest where the bus stopped. Neither of the guides did that. They provided general information about the Montréal area.

Disappointing - The tour was disappointing. We did get to see many parts of the city, but the guide (Robert) was French and spoke only very briefly in English, and much more extensively in French, so we English speakers didn't really get much of the history or importance of each area. That should be more balanced, as the guide is all important in this type of tour. It was raining and he recommended not getting off at the stops, which was the whole reason we took this tour, as an easy way to manage our touring and get break times at sites that our 7 year old would enjoy. The bus was full and no one got off, so anyone waiting at a stop was out of luck and had long waits, which would have been terribly frustrating. The tour company can't predict the weather, but should either make it clear at booking that a tour would be in mostly in French or English, or have guides who be sure to speak to each equally; and also should manage the group size better so there will be adequate service for those who do get on and off as intended. For us, it turned into a long morning of relatively little value.

Waste of time and money - We were unable to find the stops. They were not labeled and were so broad in description that we didn't want to wait for 30 minutes +/- only to find out we were in the wrong place. Even though we walked around the city for 2 days we did not see the buses on the streets. We were so disappointed with the experience in Montreal that we canceled the hop on/hop off in Quebec City.
