A private tour with a seasoned guide is the best way to make the most of your time in Monteverde at either the Monteverde Reserve or Curi Cancha Reserve. This option is great for anyone who would like a more personal touch than a standard group tour. Also great for families with children! Unlike many operators that charge per person, we offer a flat rate for your private guide for 1-4 people and for 5-8 people. This tour doesn’t include transport, but we have a customization of this tour that includes round trip transport. We look forward to hosting you!
- This tour runs rain or shine (except in a strong thunder storm or very strong winds). Please dress appropriately with long pants and closed toed shoes (no flip flops or loose sandals). Also, layers recommended!
- Wheelchair accessible only on limited part of Treetopia bridges and at Aguti Reserve.
- Non-strenuous, mostly flat walk

A wonderful experience for the whole family - We did a night tour and a private natural history walk with Pasión, and we were so glad that we did. Marcos could not have been nicer, and made the experience so engaging and interesting for the whole family. He brought his daughter Emma along, who was such a lovely young lady and my 8 year old really enjoyed having another young person to share the experience with. We went at the start of holy week and Monteverde was really busy, but Marcos took us away from the crowds to quieter paths where we were able to go at our own pace and really enjoy the peace of the cloud forest. We were lucky enough to see a quetzal, which was a nice surprise, as well as lots of other beautiful birds and insects. Marcos was extremely knowledgeable and you can see that he has such genuine enthusiasm for his work. I would highly recommend him if you are wanting to do a tour in Monteverde, particularly if you're going with children.

Marcos Cloud Forest Hike - We started our Costa Rica experience with Marcos on the Cloud Forest Hike in Mondeverde. Wow what a great start! Marcos is a conservationist, a wonderful guide and lots of fun. He represents Costa Rica perfectly. Our hike was educational and great fun. He explained many aspects about the forest, birds and the eco system. There was also a reference to Tarzan climbing in the forest when Marcos was a boy. It was a magical tour and we saw the elusive Ketsal. Thank you Marcos for an awesome hike and lovely introduction to Costa Rica. Doug and Jacqui

A very beautiful way to spend a few hours - The tour was great, our tour guide Olga was absolutely amazing and made our day. I’m a bit handicapped and have issues walking and keeping up. He couldn’t do enough to be helpful.
The meeting place was a bit confusing at best but the tour company txt me and made certain we connected with our guide.
This tour is exactly as promised it is a nature tour NOT really about wildlife but it is beautiful and a fairly easy walk.
Not much going on in Monteverdi but a fun few hours of nature at its best.

Fantastic tour - We had a fantastic tour with Marcos! We learned so much about the trees, plants, birds and other animals of the Cloud Forest. We even saw a quetzal! A very enjoyable and beautiful walk.

A family adventure in Monteverde - I could not be happier with our experience doing two tours with Pasion Costa Rica. Our family of four booked two tours with Pasion, the Natural History Walk and the Nocturnal Animals Tour. My husband and I decided to opt for the private tour option since we were traveling with our 4-year-old and 2-year-old, and didn’t want to put a damper on anyone’s group tour. Marcos was the best possible guide for our family! He was so patient and kind, and knew exactly how to adapt to both of our kids’ changing temperaments. Both our kids felt extremely comfortable with Marcos and he was great at teaching things at their level while also entertaining my husband and I with really interesting information about all the living things that make up Monteverde’s unique environment. I was blown away by the amount of wildlife Marcos was able to point out to us! I was convinced our kids would scare all the animals away but we got to see so much and we all LOVED it!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Marcos and definitely recommend Pasion Costa Rica! Communication was excellent and it was all so easy booking with them. Thanks again!

Wish it was longer - We had Deiner as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and showed us a lot of fauna and flora species in the Monteverde reserve which we would not see ourselves. Unfortunately, we had no idea that standing in line to pick up pre-paid tickets and then waiting for a shuttle ride would take an hour (Deiner was waiting for up at the reserve), so it cut our time significantly and we could not see some things we wanted. But that was not the guide's problem.

Best tour ever, ask for Marcos! - This tour was amazing! Marcos was an incredible guide. A lot of guides know a lot of information but aren’t very fun, not Marcos, we had a blast! We saw three types of monkeys and lots of wildlife. Highly recommend.

Top notch guide! - Our guide, Jason, was superb. His English was excellent, he was incredibly knowledgeable and just so passionate about everything we were seeing. It rained pretty much the whole tour, but it didn’t make any difference.
We still saw all kinds of amazing birds and animals and plants

Fun day in the cloudforest - Even though I bought everything in advance the park entrance system was cumbersome and took over 1 1/2 hours for us to receive our entry tickets at the Visitors Center in the morning, take the shuttle to the entrance and enter the park. As a result, the 2 1/2 hour private tour we paid for ended up being only 2 hours long. Still, our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He pointed out lots of insects, birds and plants and explained Costa Rican ecology very well to us. The park was well maintained except for one trail closure (Sendero Roble) and beautiful and we enjoyed a nice mid-day lunch and went back in for more exploring in the afternoon.

Disappointed - We were drawn to Pasion Monteverde by the many glowing reviews and were genuinely excited about our private Monteverde Cloud Forest nature tour. We expected one of the company’s own expert guides to lead the experience, but were instead assigned a backup guide, Daniel, with the assurance that the quality would remain the same.
Unfortunately, the tour didn’t live up to that promise. While we did see a few birds, the overall experience felt lackluster. Daniel seemed disengaged, and much of his commentary indicated he was more familiar with Curi Cancha than the Cloud Forest. His lack of enthusiasm made the exploration feel more like a walk than a guided nature experience.
What was most disappointing, though, was that the company charged a premium for a private tour under their brand name, while outsourcing the experience to a guide who didn’t seem to be part of their core team. This led to a disjointed and impersonal tour—one that didn’t reflect the quality or passion we had read about.
We truly hope the company reconsiders this approach, as it compromises the guest experience and leaves a lasting sense of disappointment.
