Amazing and educational tour! - My husband and I went on this tour along with a family and another couple, 7 people total. Roy was an incredible tour guide - very knowledgeable, easy to understand, and invested in conservation of the cloud forest. We appreciated that Roy gave clear instructions regarding both safety and conservation (e.g., don't touch plants/animals, quickly take turns when looking through the telescope) and set realistic expectations for our group (e.g., we hope to see a quetzal bird but it's not guaranteed). Having the small group size was helpful so that everyone could hear our guide easily and got a chance to see wildlife when it was pointed out. We saw and learned about a variety of birds and insects, monkeys, a snake, and lots of beautiful plants and trees. Our favorite parts of the tour were seeing a quetzal bird (yes we got lucky!) and a green pit viper snake. Note, the weather was very clear and sunny during our visit, so we may have seen more wildlife than is usual during cloudy/rainy weather.

Great Guide - Not sure that we would have seen half the birds and wildlife without our expert guide. Roy, our guide, was excellent. He had expertise in the area and the wildlife. He answered all of our questions and gave us additional information about the types of plants in the area.

Amazing birdwatching with Roy - We had a wonderful tour with Roy! He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all the animals, insects, and plants in the reserve. We were able to see the Quetzal bird three times on the tour, along with a bunch of other birds and animals, which was such a treat. Highly recommend a tour with Roy if you’re in Monteverde.

Amazing tour with a kind and knowledgeable guide! - Roy was excellent! He met us right at the entrance of the park and spotted so many things that we would've missed if we went alone. Would highly recommend!!

Roy = the best - Going with Roy was the best decision we made in Monteverde. He has to be one of the most passionate, funny and knowledgeable guides in the Cloud Forest - at times he even helped other guides to spot birds for their tours! We saw a ton of animals including three quetzals which was an amazing experience for us. Roy has a very natural way of conveying information, often with a splash of humor or an interesting backstory. We learned a lot about the history, fauna and flora of the Cloud Forest. Roy is not only fluent in English, but understands the language of the forest using not only his eyes but also his ears and nose (you can apparently find peccaries with your eyes closed). Roy exudes enthusiasm for the Cloud Forest and its inhabitants, we would definitely and wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone! “If you didn’t see it here today with Roy, you’re not going to see it anywhere!”

See Monteverde Reserve thru a Guide’s Eyes like Roy - you appreciate the journey - Excellent! Roy has a very good eye, phenomenal observation skills and is extremely knowledgeable! He could hear & track where birds might be. He found so many animals & birds for us to see as well as educating us on the trees, plants we saw and enlightening us on the history of CR, conservation efforts and Monteverde Preserve. I almost skipped Roy’s tour bc I had taken a bridges tour in morning and a night tour day before. So glad I decided to go! Saw so many birds, animals, learned so much about the ecology of Monteverde & CR history. Roy, besides being a knowledgeable expert, he is also accommodating, very prompt to respond on WhatsApp if you text him, laid back, funny and entertaining. Roy also immediately forwarded the photos he took to our WhatsApp. Our entire group of 8 had a great time & saw so much! Better to do Monteverde with a guide like Roy because truly you appreciate that there is so much to see and learn on the journey and not just rush to destination. Pura Vida!

Pleasant Time - Juan Carlos was an excellent guide. Very intuitive for listening to the different sounds, know which birds, reptiles or mammals are making them.

Great experience despite the rain - This was a great experience. It was raining, but our guide did his best to educate us about the cloud forest and the plants and animals living there. We hoped to see few more animals, but it was still very worthwhile.

Not as expected but still nice. - We started the morning getting there and seeing howler monkeys right out of the car due to their loud calls! It was amazing! We ended up in total seeing howler and spider monkeys and a TON of birds. We also saw some cool bugs that if you didn’t know, you wouldn’t know! Nature is amazing. Because of the reviews, I was expecting something much different and for $105 dollars for 2 adults and 1 child, I want to make everyone aware this is mainly a BIRD tour! I felt that you could have easily done this and seen perhaps just as much than paying. I chose only two guided tours (night and this one) our whole trip and felt both were not worth it and a waste of money. Also considering since we had to also pay $60 for admission to the konteverde cloud forest on top of the $105z I was was also so sad to learn that we weren’t going to be taken to the cloud forest bridge, considering I was wanting to do an early tour to go when the clouds were low and dense in the first. I did not read that it would not include going to the bridge at all. It ended up being close to a 3 hour walking tour around a couple of the same trails for mostly only birds. Besides my 7 year old complaining, I did enjoy this and seeing the birds were nice but I’m not a bird enthusiast so it did get boring for us after a while. We did learn some things about the history of the forest as well. Beautiful beautiful place otherwise! Our tour guide Roy was very sweet and passionate about what he does and I’d recommend him if you love birds.
