- Sam Sharpe Square - This tour takes you to the heart of Montego Bay. Your first stop will be a 10-minute visit to Sam Sharpe Square. This area is named after a freed slave, Sam Sharpe, who led a significant uprising in Jamaica on Christmas Day in 1831. Here, you can see a statue of Sam Sharpe and other slaves who faced severe punishment in 1832 for the uprising. Feel free to step out of the vehicle and explore. Additionally, there is “The Cage,” originally built from wood in 1806 and later reconstructed with bricks. It served as a holding area for runaway slaves until they were returned to their plantations, as well as for vagrants and disorderly seamen.
- St James Parish Church - The tour continues with a 30-minute visit to St. James Parish Church. This Anglican Church, established in 1775, is one of the oldest in Montego Bay. It features remarkable architecture and contains items dating back over 200 years. Built to endure through the ages, the church remains fully operational as it was when first constructed. Be sure to read the marble plaques and headstones, which display exquisite poems and well-wishes in old English. Feel free to explore and read the headstones. The church welcomes contributions at your discretion.
- Doctor’s Cave Beach - The drive to the beach takes you through the narrow streets of downtown and onto the famous Montego Bay Hip Strip, where Doctor’s Cave Beach is located. Known worldwide for nearly a century, Doctor’s Cave is celebrated for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and nearly white sand. Its sheltered location ensures calm waters. Your tour guide will escort you to the check-in area, where you can rent chairs and umbrellas if desired. Beautiful palm, coconut, and sea grape trees provide shaded areas for relaxing on your towels. Various water sports are available for a fee. After two hours at the beach, it will be time for lunch and shopping.
Lunch and shopping will last 1 hour and 45 minutes. You will then be returned to your ship.
- The Craft Market at the Hip Strip - The Montego Bay Hip Strip is one of Jamaica’s most vibrant souvenir shopping areas. It also offers Duty-Free Shopping, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, Starbucks, Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records, Harley Davidson Jamaica, among other popular spots. On the Hip Strip, you can find elegant dining and authentic jerk chicken eateries. Most visitors to Montego Bay find the Hip Strip very convenient due to its variety.
