Iglesia de San Jacinto - Santa Cruz de Mompox, declared a National Monument and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is a cultural and historical jewel in the middle of the Magdalena River Delta. Mompox gained importance in colonial times as a rearguard for Cartagena de Indias. We leave Cartagena to head south, crossing the Canal del Dique, and stop at the village San Jacinto, land of hammock weavers and multiple handicrafts. We continue to Mompox via Carmen de Bolivar and Santa Ana to Talaiga Nueva, which lies on the Mompox Island.
