Highlights
  • Mount Meru - Between Momella and Ngabobo, on the north side of Mount Meru, lies the village of Mukuru. A small, pyramid–shaped hill at the foothills of Mount Meru is the landmark of the area.

This hill, Ol Doinyo Landaree or Mount Mukuru is still used by the Maasai for religious purposes. It’s height is about 2.100 metres, next to Mount Meru.

Birdlife is abundant, giraffes feed from fine acacia leaves and zebras share the pasture with the locals’ cattle. A place of peace and contemplation.

Great hike and marvellous views! - It was a wonderful hike and the maasai guide was very friendly and humorous. But before going you should be aware that if you want to use the Momela road (starting from Arusha-Moshi road) for reaching the place through the national park, you can't do it without your own transport and you need to pay the park entrance fee (although I was told by the locals that there exist buses that use this route). I suggest to call beforehand and get instructions of how to reach the place best.
