Additional Information

Mirissa is one of the best places in the world for whale watching, especially for the most famous and largest marine mammal, the ‘Blue Whale.’ Actually, it takes only six to nine nautical miles from Mirissa Harbor to reach whale habitats. We have been operating whale-watching tours for the last seven years, and through our experience

Our whale-watching tours start from Mirissa harbor, and most of the time whales can be seen very close to the Mirissa coast. Some days it takes several hours as they swim away for food in the deep sea. During our journey to see blue whales, we can also see several other whale species, dolphins, and other marine life.

Killer whales, sperm whales, and Bride whales are the different kinds of whales we can see. Spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and Riso dolphins are the various dolphin types. Also, green-back turtles, whale sharks, Flying fish, and Tuna fish are other marine species that can be seen on some days.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience - We had a fantastic time on the boat. It was so well run and organised, very informative crew. We were lucky enough to see 2 Fin whales and lots of dwarf spinner dolphins. I was a little worried after reading some other reviews that it might feel more like a whale hunting than whale watching but it wasn't like that at all. The captain stayed a respectable distance and was very experienced at predicting where the whales might serface next. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Thank you.

Best Whale Watching Tour. You must book it! - We felt very comfortable and it was a completely successful tour. We particularly liked that the animals were respected and not hunted. We saw the other boats were hunting the whales. It was terrible 🙈 The team and the food were also very great. We saw three whales and lots of dolphins. The team and the captain tried very hard to find the whales and make a good job. In the end, you have to be aware that it is nature and no one has any influence on whether sightings are possible on the day of the tour. If we hadn't seen any animals, it would still have been a very nice boat tour. I think it's a must do if you're in Mirissa or the surrounding area. I wouldn't book any other tour. We can recommend the tour 100%.

Top stuff - The other reviews are wholly accurate. The WWC team took care of us like royalty. They were considerate, solicitous, and attentive. The trip was well managed and we saw dolphins and fin whales in a sensible and environmentally conscious way - unlike the other tours seen. The boat had plenty of space on it - again in stark contrast to other operators that we noticed. The food provided was spot on for the trip and the whole vibe was relaxed. I'd recommend you wear sandals and swimming trunks, as well as plenty of sunscreen.

The kindest and most honest staff - We decided to use the services of ‘whale watching club’ last week after looking at the reviews and it’s the best decision we made. I highly recommend them because they are professional, maintain a good boat and are very honest. We’d booked the tour for Sunday morning and on Saturday they informed us very honestly about how there were no whale sightings the two previous days in case we wanted to back out and updated us once a whale sighting was made. But that’s not the best part. My friend had extreme sea sickness and they took such good care of her for the whole 5 hours and ensured she was still included in the experience. They made sure each person saw the whales and dolphins up close and provided good quality food on board as well. Unlike other boats they didn’t chase the whales, didn’t overcrowd the boats and maintained safety for everyone. 100/10 for the value of service they provided and their kindness ✨

This is the tour to boon - What a great tour! We did not see any whales but we did see 2 types of dolphins and enjoyed the boat ride. They provide breakfast and snacks and beverages. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The boat was in great shape and compared to other tour boats we saw, way less cramped with people. This is the tour to book in Mirissa!

Great Whale Watching Experience!!! - Wow. From beginning to end this is one class organization. I went on two whale watching tours in Mirissa with two different companies. On the first day I went with a different company. They were fine. Ok experience. No whales (but not their fault, no tours saw them that day). Boat was nice and staff fine. The next day I decided to try Whale Watching Club. I contacted them through WhatsApp. They responded right away. They were honest that there had not been many whale sitings the passed few days and chances were 50% of seeing a whale. While I greatly appreciated the honesty I decided to give it a try. It was a little more expensive ($10 more) than the other company. But boy was it worth it. The boat had less seats and less passengers allowing much better viewing. The food was actually nice and they came by 3 times with meal/snacks. But the real difference was the staff. Very helpful and happy to give out information. I learned so much. As on the previous day we saw lots of dolphins but no whales. As we were headed back and I had given up we got a last minute alert that whales had been spotted nearby. We were able to view a mother and her calf and it was an incredible experience. When I saw the other boats viewing the whales I was glad I was with Whale Watching Club. The other boats were packed with people and showed little respect for the small calf, boxing it in and getting very close. Our captain (Manoj) kept a respectable distance and we still had an amazing experience. Apparently many boats contract with tour operators and are packed with people. Whale Watching Club only takes reservations through the internet or whatsapp. By the people on the boat you could see a big difference. Do yourself a favor and book with Manoj and Whale Watching Club. I recommend through WhatsApp. You'll be rewarded with a beautiful seafood safari!

Dolphins and Finwhales from a really nice boat! - Great Tour with a comfortable and not overcrowded boat. This is the second whalewatching tour we did at our stay in weligama and i would definitly choose this one again. Only around 20 people on deck, nice layout of seats so can either use the free area at the front or even have a nice view while seated. Due to the typ of boat u can always move around freely as it doesnt effect the tilt and cant make the boat flip as on others. We saw a lot of dolphins and also a whale that we carefully followed till we had a good view when he came up. Drinks and snacks where constantly provided throughout the trip and even the tour took 6 hours in total it was never boring, which it can while searching on other tours. The crew was always motivated to search for wildlife and gave useful information about the things we’ve seen. In the end we even had the chance to have a refreshing swim with some music before we entered the port. 10/10 would come again. Only an option for pickup from near hotels could make it even better.

Recommend for families with young children - - this catamaran is the best in the harbour for stability minimising sea sickness and feeling safe - Food & snacks were plentiful, tasty and hygienic - Clean toilets, also cleaned during the trip too - A passionate captain who was vocal with other boats about not going so close as to harm the sea life we saw - Staff friendly and caring, and really great with our three kids - One of the only boats to stop for a swim and end of your drink!
