Highlights
  • The National Art Center, Tokyo - This is a place where Tsuji visits on a date with senior Okudera who is longing for a part-time job. The two people eat at the “Salon de Terondo” on the second floor of the building. This cafe with a conical shape floating in the air seems to be popular for its high-quality sweets such as cakes and macaroons. We have prepared a trip around the building because it is a spot that is a secret spot among the locals.
  • Shinano-machi - The footbridge that appears many times in the play is just off JR Shinanomachi Station on the left. This is where Mio and Okudera farewell date and Mitsuha who visited Tokyo tried to call him. You can take a walk, and the docomo tower seen from here is also a spectacular spot.
  • Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery - The building reflected in the background of the school scene of the samurai and others is the “Saintoku Memorial Painting Hall” in Jingu Gaien, right next to JR Shinanomachi Station. The museum itself is designated as an important cultural property of the country, and it is also a place where precious huge murals depicting the progress of modernization of Japan from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period are exhibited. If you are interested, you can get a ticket if you apply in advance.
  • Shinjuku - Shinjuku police station back intersection, Shinjuku Dai guard east
These two places drawn in the movie are also said to be symbols of Shinjuku Station. I would like to be able to tour Shinjuku while enjoying the city skyline because electric bicycles are within easy reach.

  1. The National Art Center, Tokyo (2 hours)
Experience a venue frequented by Tsuji and his elder co-worker Okudera. Visit the “Salon de Thé Rond,” on the 2nd floor of the building where the pair shared a meal. This café, suspended mid-air and well-regarded for its exquisite cakes and macaroons, will surely impress you. We offer a tour around the edifice, a hidden gem appreciated by locals.

  2. Transition to Shinanomachi using the electric bicycle (15 minutes)

  3. Sakai JR Shinanomachi-mae footbridge (30 minutes)
Explore the footbridge featured prominently in the drama, located just to the left of JR Shinanomachi Station. This is the site of Mio and Okudera’s poignant farewell and Mitsuha’s attempted call to him after her visit to Tokyo. The view of the impressive docomo tower makes this a must-visit location.

  4. Seitoku Memorial Picture Gallery (1 hour)
Spot the building from the school scene of the samurai in the background at “Saintoku Memorial Painting Hall” in Jingu Gaien near JR Shinanomachi Station. This nationally recognized museum showcases a large mural illustrating Japan’s modernization progression, spanning from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era. The mural’s depiction of changes in clothing styles from traditional kimono to Western attire uniquely illustrates the blend of traditional Japanese and Western cultures.
