Perched on a bluff with a view of Milwaukee’s northern harbor, this neighborhood is home to a stunning array of early 20th-century mansions. The tree-lined streets showcase diverse architectural styles such as German Renaissance Revival, English Tudor Revival, Mediterranean Revival, and others that were popular between 1890 and 1940. These homes were crafted by some of Milwaukee’s most renowned architects, including Eschweiler, Clas, Niedecken, and even Wisconsin’s own Frank Lloyd Wright. In addition to the architectural beauty, the neighborhood was once home to many notable Milwaukee residents who prospered in industries like wheat, railroads, straw hats, fur coats, and ice cream.
The tour also highlights non-residential landmarks in the neighborhood, such as a historic hospital complex, a water tower, a lighthouse, and a park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.
