Best food/culture tour I've been on - I can not recommend this tour enough! I have been on a lot of eating/culture tours around the world and this by far was my favorite! Amala is passionate about both food and history. Not only Tlaquepaque’s - but Jalisco as a state - and Mexico as a country. She’s extremely knowledgable about everything - from the ingredients in each dish, to the production of the ingredients, to the methods that are used to create each meal. Amala's also very considerate, kind and answered all of my many questions. Unfortunately because of the pandemic, I was her first client since March. I also was the only one on the tour. Never have I been so lucky to get so much personal attention from an expert of cuisine and tradition. If you’re worried for health and safety because of the pandemic - do not worry! Amala always wore a N95 mask, gave me hand sanitizer (lavender-based) so it smelled delicious and there were multiple temperature checks through Tlaquepaque. There were even several stations throughout Tlaquepaque that misted sanitizer on you!
The food and drinks included in this tour were absolutely delicious. You really get the best of the best dishes in Tlaquepaque - as well an in-depth cultural lesson on Mexican food. This tour is so well thought out. You start in the market, where Amala goes through all the ingredients that will make up the dishes you’ll be tasting - the beans, the rice, the chilies, the sugar, the bread - those that are native to Tlaquepaque and wider Jalisco. You whet up an appetite that makes all the dishes so satisfying when you start eating. Dishes and drinks range from beautiful restaurants, to food stalls to tasting rooms. Cazuela is my new favorite drink. You get a nice healthy dose of Tequila throughout this tour as well ;) I give this tour 10 out of 5 stars. Thanks Amala!

Highlight of our trip to Tlaquepaque - My boyfriend and I love traveling to different cities and going on food tours to better know the area and culture. This was a particularly special tour for my boyfriend as he is from Mexico and his father has fond memories of Tlaquepaque. Tlaquepaque Food Tour and Tequila Tasting was one of the best tours we’ve ever been on and that was not just because of the personal connection. First off, Amaya is AMAZING! She could have cancelled as my boyfriend and I were the only people booked for that day's tour. She was a wonderful host, very informative and accommodating. Amaya did an excellent job guiding us around the various eateries of Tlaquepaque. The tour was three hours, it was so much fun that we were surprised by how quickly it went by. Amaya was very passionate about the food and the town. She was able to fluently switch between speaking english to me and spanish to my boyfriend. She explained how the food was made, who made it, and the historical context for each dish. We first traveled to an open market where she enticed our appetites and told us about the gastronomy of Tlaquepaque and Mexico. The market was very interesting and one of our favorite spots to experience. We had more than 7 stops with food and drinks. The food tour served as a walking historical tour as she made comments about the buildings and avenues. We enjoyed having time between meals to digest. The food choices and drinks were all delicious. I don’t know how anyone could resist. The food stops were diverse and delicious, and I thought the variety and quantity of the food we got to try was well worth the price of the tour -- fantastic value. I particularly enjoyed that Amaya took us to a couple hole-in-the-wall places that I would never have tried on my own. We loved this tour so much that we went back to a few places afterwards. Bring an empty stomach with you, by the end of the tour we were pleasantly full and satisfied. This is a fun tour that combines delicious food, walking and cultural lessons.

An Historical and Gastronomic Delight - This is a combination history-and-culinary tour. We cannot recommend Amaya and the tour highly enough. The selection of dishes and drinks were well-balanced and complementary. Your appreciation of Mexican history will increase appreciably through the presentation of the cuisine from market to murals. If you will spend a day in Tlaquepaque, be sure to include this treasure.

Fabulous food tour - This is a wonderful walking tour! It lasted 41/2 hours- during that time we tasted local delicacies (food and drinks) at many restaurants, learned about local history, and even had a tequila tasting at the shop of a distillery downtown. Our expert guide, Amaya, is a food scientist and is interesting, knowledgeable and speaks excellent English. This tour should not be missed!

We started with the farmer's market, identifying some important basic ingredients used in foods I would be tasting. That was a wonderful part of the tour, just seeing the action and foods of the market.

The dishes were superb and delicate! I highly recommend the tour and look forward to doing it again.
