Highlights
  • Mexico City - This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Meet Margarita at her home on a typical residential street of Mexico City’s Tlacopac San \’ngel neighborhood. Start your experience in Margarita’s garden, weather permitting, where you will enjoy a welcome drink and appetizers. Then head to Margarita’s kitchen for your cooking class, during which you will learn to make 2-3 traditional Mexican dishes. Learn to make tortillas from scratch, which you might turn into quesadillas that you can snack on as you make your next dishes, a traditional soup such as creamy chorizo-bean soup or tortilla soup, along with a main dish such as chile rellenos or pork tenderloin in tamarind sauce. You will also learn to make Mexican rice, a classic side served with many main dishes in Mexico that involves toasting the rice and then cooking it together along with a variety of aromatic vegetables. Then sit down together to enjoy your meal at Margarita’s dining table or, in warm summer months, outdoors in Margarita’s garden. End your meal with a traditional rice pudding or a spicy chocolate mousse and coffee or tea.

Wonderful experience with Margarita - Margarita was an amazing host. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time with her and almost could not leave her house. She had a genuine interest for getting to know us and sharing her knowledge about Mexican food and cuisine. The meals we made were simple, yet very rewarding to learn because they were things none of us had made before and could pretty easily recreate at home. She is also trained as a food stylist, so everything from the plates to the table to her house were very pretty! All in all, a great experience. Thank you Margarita!

Best cooking class ever - This was such an amazing experience! Margarita was such a lovely host, great food, great conversation and her home is lovely. We are already talking about joining her again during Día de los Muertos. I have lots of food allergies and Margarita was very accommodating and our food was incredible. 5 stars all around!!!! Do make sure you contact her before the day of so she knows about any food aversions and she can help with directions, as CDMX geography can be a bit tricky.

Most authentic cooking class you will find! - This was one of the best foreign cooking classes I have ever taken. Margarita is a fantastic, warm and inviting host. I loved being in her home and hearing her stories about life in Mexico city. I took the class w/ my friend from Venezuela in Margarita's kitchen. The experience was just for the two of us. The personal touch and feeling like a family friend made this experience very memorable. I also loved her teaching style- having us pay attention to textures, smells, and colors to know when things are ready versus having us just prep or do simple steps and later give a recipe. I really feel like I can make these dishes at home! And, of course, the food was amazing. We were taught how to make almond mole and it was the best mole I've ever had. The dessert was also perfect, not too sweet, using fresh fruits and cream filling. She was also generous to share some Mexican wines with us. I cannot say enough about this experience! Highly recommended. When I find myself back in CDMX I will take another class with her to learn something different. Muchisimas gracias Margarita- Carlos y Erin

The best birthday gift! - Just amazing!!! We chose this experience as a birthday gift and it was the best! Margarita welcomed us to her beautiful home as she took the time to share her wisdom in teaching us how to cook traditional Mexican food! She was extremely organized as she had prepped a lot of the food! She would model what we had to do and encourage us to try our best in making it! We ate our food in her beautiful garden! She will e-mail all recipes that we practiced and definitely keep in touch! We whole-heartely recommend this experience!

Great way to spend an evening and learn. - Have been eating out every day on our CDMX vacation so a great change up to cook our own food. Great way to chop, prepare, cook, and eat as a family (with 2 teenagers) with Margarita and the lovely dog Lola in a lovely residential area. Ingredients were mostly prepared but still had few final preps. The kids chipped i. Which normally they would not. Learned a few thing to take with us in our own cooking. Great experience and especially on a US Thanksgiving Day.

Totally Worth it! - My partner and I booked this class with Margarita this past August and had an amazing time! we chose to do a private class as I am no chef and wanted to ensure I could ask as many questions as possible and not feel left behind. Margarita is incredibly knowledgeable and patient and we really enjoyed the class. Margaritas neighbourhood was also interesting to visit. We left totally full, learned a lot and she also sends you the recipes so you can cook these dishes at home! Would definitely recommend!

Home cooking at its finest! - Margarita went above and beyond! She was so patient, caring, and knowledgeable. She was very organized, and made the process of learning the recipes so simple! She also had lots of wonderful recommendations for our time in Mexico City that we truly enjoyed. We definitely recommend this experience if you are looking to cook some great food and have a conversation with someone who understands the pulse of Mexico City.
