The Anahuacalli Museum, whose name in Nahuatl means “house on land between two seas,” is a visionary creation by Diego Rivera in collaboration with architect Juan O’Gorman. Designed as a studio, museum, and temple for art, this unique space allows visitors to appreciate not only the extensive collection of crafts and pre-Hispanic pieces that Rivera amassed during his lifetime, but also contemporary works in constant dialogue with the past.
Its monumental architecture, inspired by ancient Mesoamerican constructions and built with volcanic stone, stands as a work of art in itself. Integrated into the natural environment of Pedregal, Anahuacalli is also a City of the Arts: a vibrant place where art is displayed, created, and contemplated. It is a continually evolving museum that unites pre-Hispanic and contemporary aesthetics, past, present, and future, in one space.
