- Mixquic - The San Andrés Mixquic cemetery, which surrounds a 16th-century church, is a historic burial site linked to ancient death rituals. Renowned for its lively Día de Muertos festivities, it showcases graves and altars adorned with marigolds.
During this walking tour, the guide will explain the significance of the Day of the Dead celebrations, and participants will have the chance to observe the preparations families undertake to ready the cemetery and altars (only on Nov 2nd) for the visit of their departed loved ones, offering an incredible experience filled with joy and color.
Participants will also admire the vibrant murals and the paper maché catrinas and decorations that the town’s residents create to enliven the streets. There will be ample opportunities to capture photos that will serve as cherished memories of the trip to Mexico City.
Additionally, there will be visits to some private house altars, lovingly and hopefully crafted by residents anticipating the return of their loved ones.
