THE TURIN BRONZE HORSE - Turin. Plaza de San Carlos. Emanuele Filiberto de Savoy equestrian monument. The equestrian monument to Emanuele Filiberto is the work of sculptor Carlo Marochetti (1805-1867) and was located in Piazza San Carlo in Turin in 1838. In many respects, the monument is seen as a symbol of the city of Turin. Due to its grandeur and majesty, it was considered worthy of rivaling the most famous equestrian sculptures of Bartolomeo Colleoni or Gattamelata. The equestrian statue of the Duke is located in the center of the square. It portrays Emanuele Filiberto in the act of sheathing the sword after the glorious victory won over the French, at the Battle of San Quentin (1557), by the Spanish and Savoy troops, to which the underlying bas-reliefs allude. The two bas-reliefs that adorn the pedestal represent two acts of the Italian wars in which Duke Testa di Ferro participated: the one in the west describes the Battle of San Quentin and the one in the east the peace of Cateau-Cambrésis. The monument was merged in Paris and transported to Turin and opened here on November 4, 1838.

Good tour of Turin - I mostly chose to visit Turin because of the Holy Shroud and I am so happy to have gone in. I was also fortunate to have a friendly local person show me around. He even didn’t mind extending the tour a little bit to enjoy an antipasto food sampling at a local favorite restaurant. There was a very nice park with Roman ruins and statue of Julius Caesar. If touring with Lokafy or Viator, ask for Mohamed. For shopping, make sure to stroll Via Lagrange and Via Roma. Outstanding tour!

I have never seen a tour guide so passionate about her city and the great sites to see. My wife and I loved the tour and highly recommend this tour on your first day in the city to get acclimated with everything there is to see.
