Bring Pompeii to Life - This is a large museum with a major focus on Pompeii and Herculaneum. We have visited both of those sites; we mostly saw the bones in those visits. Here we got a much better feel for the people who were victims of the eruption. We were very relieved that all of the explanatory cards (which were numerous and very complete) were in English as well as Italian. We visited all floors. It would have been nice to be given a basic handout showing what was where, but this is only available on-line. It proved to be more trouble than it was worth. The Egyptian content in the basement was not particularly interesting; more like souvenirs brought home by earlier travelers. Fortunately, the upper floors made the visit very worthwhile.

Excellent museum with wondrous Pompeii finds - We loved this huge museum and were lucky to enter for free (first Sunday of every month). The pompeii exhibit was amazing and shows their rich culture and artistic skills. Loved it Avoid the cafe - food was overpriced and looked horrible. The gf option was a ball of mozzarella! Staff were bust and quite rude. It was not very clean either.

Where all the good Pompeii artifacts are - When you visit Pompeii's ruins, you see replicas of many things that have been removed. the originals are here,. Further, all the more delicate items they found are here too and you see none of that (not even reproductions) in Pompeii. the amount of things to see here is overwhelming. Mosaics, wall painting, glassware, furniture and statues galore.

Great exhibits but unsatisfactory information. - Great exhibits and interesting artefacts from Pompeii plus lots more. They would warrant a 5 star rating. However organisation is confusing, exhibits are not explained well enough, and the Pompeii model was unavailable to view. Toilets on ground floor down stairs were in a very poor state.

Archaeological Museum of Naples - The museum is huge and, in my opinion, the best in Europe in terms of art and artefacts from ancient Rome and Magna Graecia. Most of the pieces on display were taken from Pompeii, but the Farnese collection is also important and beautiful and the Magna Grecia collection is impressive, especially the mosaics that cover the rooms. This museum complements or is complemented by a visit to the archaeological site of Pompeii. A word of warning: if you are a history lover, check that all the museum spaces are open before visiting - when I visited it, this February, the first floor was closed for conservation and so I missed the Pompeii mosaic collection. This was a sadness for me, as I had come from far away especially to see them. Ticket price: EUR 20 per person (in this case wasn't fair).

Grandios - with swabs - For the ancient mosaics from Pompeii you have to pay extra again, which is not understandable (it is worth it), and you should have pointed out that the best-known exhibit "Alexanderschlacht" is not on display due to restoration (annoying). The whole thing is also arranged in a somewhat confusing way – but otherwise grandiose.

Excursion to the museum - It was a very exciting trip but a bit boring for smaller guests. With the Audio Guid, it's even better. But a very long queue.

A massive disappointment given the other good reviws - Poorly laid out with most exhibits pushed against walls leaving grand halls echoing their emptiness. I expected more given the good reviews but I found it difficult to engage with the subject matter and totally uninspiring. Toilets are in the cellars, they are not clean and they smell horribly. For elderly visitors there are very few hand rails and i witnessed a couple of stumbles and one fall. Unthinking tour guides seem happy to discuss exhibits next to doorways which blocks access and creates stress for others. This place was not my idea of fun at all, it's just hard work.
