Additional Information

Naples is globally recognized for its espresso. Yet, many are unaware that our coffee-making techniques have evolved over time. This evolution has resulted in a variety of methods to brew a delicious cup of coffee, each offering a unique flavor profile.
As a native Neapolitan, I’m obviously a fan of all these methods!
If you are a coffee enthusiast like myself, you’re in for a treat with this experience. I will guide you to the finest, hidden coffee spots in the city - places you would probably skip if you were exploring solo!
You will gain knowledge about coffee brewing and understand the distinction between a “moka” and a “cuccuma” (types of coffee machines that require a bit more than merely pressing a button). In Naples, coffee is more than a beverage - it’s a tradition. I look forward to revealing a side of my culture that remains unexplored to many.

Location
Piazza Bellini
I’ll be standing next to the statue of the Italian composer Bellini, in the middle of the square.

Highlight of Naples! - This was one of the highlights of our entire trip! Maria was so personable and knowledgeable. She made us feel comfortable right away and even took care to accommodate our allergies during the tour. We could tell she was really invested and passionate about coffee and it made us even more excited to learn! We learned about the history of Naples and it's coffee tradition and felt like insiders at each local coffee shop we tried. Maria was happy to answer all of our many questions about coffee and more. We would take this tour over and over again. I don't think I have to words to explain how much we enjoyed it. If you get the chance I highly recommend this tour. If you love (or are even just mildly curious) about coffee Maria will inspire you! Oh, and the coffee was delicious too!

The OG Naples coffee tour - Maria's tour was the highlight of my trip to Naples. We were brought first to a specialty cafe still respectful of tradition, where, over delicious sfogliatelle frolle, we tasted one espresso with chili, and then a typical Neapolitan blend brewed in a cucumella, which she explained is the predecessor to the moka pot. We moved onto Bar Mexico where we tasted Passalacqua blend caffè con cremina, which blew me away as the platonic ideal of Neapolitan coffee--decadent and powerful. If you have become accustomed in Naples to ordering un caffè normale and stirring in your own sugar, you must try this specific expression, as it is not available elsewhere. While Maria is a native Neapolitan, she is not dogmatic about tradition, instead remaining open minded about other methods outside of her home town regardless of what she prefers for herself. This makes her just as comfortable to speak on fun bits of trivia regarding Neapolitan customs, e.g. the acceptability of drinking water before or after your coffee, how not to develop 3rd degree burns on your lips your first time in Naples, etc.--as she is to speak on single origin coffee, V60s, etc. She is clearly knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about her trade and was extremely receptive of the way too many questions I had for her. As such, the experience was very special and personalized, and I could not recommend her more for anybody wondering what is the fuss about coffee in Naples, compared to the rest of Italy and the world. If you drink coffee casually, be prepared to pour what you used to drink down the sink. If you are instead the kind of coffee person who owns a WDT tool and has a preference for conical or flat burrs, she has no less to offer. 10/10 must do in Naples.

An awesome local Naples coffee tour for everyone! - I am really impressed by Maria’s passion for coffee and her proud to Naples’s coffee culture. The tour was rich and inspiring, and I highly enjoyed the coffee she presented (yes, she shared a list to us after the trip as well) - the day right after, I brought my friend to the cafe shop she shown because I like the taste and think my friend cannot miss it too! Thanks again Maria and please keep going :) BTW she is really caring, before the tour, she asked about my allergies to better prepare for the dessert included in the experience.

A brilliant experience! - Maria was an excellent guide and very friendly. We did the tour with our 1 year old in a harness but Maria was very tolerant and accommodating of our daughter. Maria had contacted us before the tour started to make sure we could easily find her and to check in with dietary requirements which was thoughtful. We loved all her knowledge of Neopolitan history and the history of coffee in the area and she had picked some great places for us to try coffee which was delicious! She also found us vegan croissants to enjoy with our coffee which we appreciated a lot. Would definitely recommend this tour to others if you like coffee or would just like to see a bit of Naples and hear about its history from a local.

Great way to see Naples on foot and enjoy some fabulous coffee ☕️! - María was a brilliant tour guide; she was friendly, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about coffee. She chose two really different places for us to do our tasting, which meant we got a really good sample of options to try. One of our favourite moments was when we got to taste coffee with chilli - wow, I can still feel the heat on my tongue 👅. Whilst walking to the different venues, Maria also supplied some interesting information about the streets and historical buildings, so a tour within a tour. We really enjoyed Maria’s company and would highly recommend this tour.

Highly recommended coffee tour you shouldn't miss! - It was an excellent tour, in which we visited some of the best cafes and roasteries in Naples. Through the tour we were also exposed to the history of Naples and how it's connected to the coffee. Must do for any coffee enthusiast! We recommend starting your trip with this tour, as it gives context for further coffee experiences in the city, and Maria sends recommendations on cafes in the city.

We had a chill and fun morning filled with unique coffee which I really enjoyed. The group was fun, as a solo traveller I really enjoyed the whole experience and chatting with people.
