Highlights
  • Mount Etna - Here we will start our trek that will allow us to cross our lunar landscape, made up of the recent lava flows emitted during the winter and spring 2021, to reach the area of the small explosive cone of the 1971 eruption, which disappeared under the lava of the 2021, so the trekking to the main crater of the Etna Volcano will start from here.

You can admire the extraordinary spectacle that the highest volcano in Europe offers us, by browsing inside the bowels of the central crater. Then we will continue on a crater terrace to admire the Bocca Nuova crater, the Southeast Crater and the Northeast Crater. From this point, if the weather conditions allow it, we will be able to observe Calabria, the Aeolian Islands, the mountains and the interior of Sicily and therefore the entire Sicilian east coast.

Great! - Great tour! Tour guides show you all the secrets of the volcano! With 50 euros it was also one of the cheaper options. 10/10 would do again!

Intense but so worth it ! - Very intense but rally worth the effort. We went up till about 3000 metres guided by a well informed guide explaining the evolution and general etna information very well. Basic physical condition is needed as the hike is intensive.

Fantastic Tour, Worth the Climb. - This 4 hour guided tour was brilliant. We took the cable car and then walked with our two knowledgeable guides, Gianfranco and Tony, both of whom spoke very good English. By taking the guided tour the group was taken across recent lava fields, through a lava tunnel, to the site of where the lava flow erupted and flowed, then finally along the ridge of the highest crater we could safely be taken to. Breaks were taken every 20 to 30 minutes when the guides explained what we could see. Climbing boots, socks, a warm coat and helmets were provided. This trip was the highlight of our holiday!

Trekking Valle del Bove - We had an exceptional experience trekking the Valle del Bove crater on mount Etna. We were not sure whether to go up via cable car then a short bus ride to a different summit point, in instead we chose the foot trekking option which was fabulous. Our guide Giacomo was out of this world and took us to fabulous view points which just took our breath away. A tour which we would highly recommend, and if you are lucky enough to get Giacomo as a guide, you will not be disappointed. 7 Stars👌

Beautiful excursion in a lunar landscape. - Thanks to the favorable weather conditions, we took advantage of the opportunity to take the guided excursion to the summit craters. The guide/vulcanologist Luca guided us with great attention and caution, explaining and telling us many things related to the volcano and its seismic events. Positive and unique experience. Recommended. The only flaw is that the price is a bit high: for the cable car (around 15 minutes) and the excursion (around 3 hours) it's 100 euros per person.

Disappointing. Tourist trap - Watch out for tourist traps! The touts are waiting for you on the road when you arrive and make you think that they are official guides of the Etna national park. They tell you that it is obligatory to take a guide when that is not true. Very expensive excursion: 50 euros in cash, plus 50 euros for the funicular ticket. 100 euros in total. Very expensive considering the lousy services. Once paid, you are made to wait in a restaurant that is part of the same company. Very expensive, not fresh and not good. Ask for the receipt with details. Very unpleasant agency staff, especially after paying. Then you have to wait until a group of 30 people is formed. Arrived at 08:30, departed 13:00!! We don't tell you that of course. A word of advice: take your excursion directly at the official funicular counter, Funivia dell'Etna, cheaper (return by funicular, bus and guide 78 euros). Otherwise just take the funicular and walk alone following the paths or the road. Shoes, warm jackets, gloves can be rented upon arrival of the funicular (5 euros each). Watch out for the queue to buy your tickets, more than an hour in April, I don't dare imagine in summer.
