Additional Information

Departures from Piano Provenzana are scheduled with off-road transportations, taking the scenic route up to the northern face of Mt. Etna, traversing old craters and fresh lava streams to reach up to the 2825 mt mark. From here, a foot journey commences (covering a 470mt positive altitude difference), walking through a trail surrounded by volcanic debris and cinders until reaching the Central Crater at an altitude of 3300 mt, where a pause will be taken to marvel at the majestic, unique, and ongoing phenomena of this unique volcanic landscape, along with the breathtaking view from Sicily’s apex (the visibility is subject to change based on weather or volcanic conditions). The descent retraces the same route, with the final stretch navigated inside small channels created by soft and crumbly volcanic cinders, which provide an easy footing provided that necessary precautions are taken, until reaching a point at 2825 mt where off road vehicles will bring us back to Piano Provenzana.

Unforgettable Summit Tour - Great experience that I can only recommend! My husband and I spontaneously booked the Summit Tour the day before and it was an unforgettable trip. Our guide Vincenzo spoke several languages, led us flawlessly through the mountains and explained everything that you can see up there. After thinking long and hard about how we wanted to see Etna, the tour to the main crater was definitely worth it! 😍

Exceptional experience - Very beautiful trek despite the departure a little early at 7:45 a.m.; loan of shoes jackets helmets poles, we will take you by 4x4 bus to 2850m then the trekking begins approximately 400 m of altitude difference to arrive at the 1 crater the walk continues around the 3 other craters exceptional experience, our French-speaking guide Domenico was great, lots of explanations Remember to wear a hat and gloves+++ because of the wind and snow Breathtaking view of Calabria, the Aeolian Islands, Stromboli, Taormina and Catania. The cost is 120€ per person for a 5-hour trek and requires good physical fitness but is really accessible

A unique experience in contact with the force of nature! - Perfect day: the weather graced us with heavenly clarity, from the top you could see the Aeolian islands, Stromboli and part of Calabria. I can't describe seeing the summit craters so closely, a beautiful excursion and everything went well.

In our case, a waste of money - It was great to get up the mountain, especially since it is something quite unique and the view is beautiful. The tour itself was a waste of money for us. First of all, we had to pay €70 per person for a bus (it says so in the description, but we still hoped it was a mistake) I can understand that driving up the uneven "road" requires skill and is not the best for the vehicles, but I don't understand the reason for paying €70 per person. It is definitely not worth the trip!! The tour itself was also rather bad. We are not the most athletic and may need a little more time and a breather, but we would have made it to the summit. But shortly after we started the hike, the tour guide sent us back down because we were too slow for him. According to him, we would not have made it to the summit. We were lucky that there was another tour that day that was more about old craters and the view, which we were able to join. The tour guide also took the time for us. He explained everything, you could ask questions and you weren't rushed. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly what kind of tour that would have been, but we would have preferred to book that one. Nevertheless, we were very disappointed and above all sad about the amount of money we spent for nothing.
