- Oxkintok Ruins - Archaeological Site
This archaeological site is sure to captivate visitors with its Mayan labyrinth, a structure known as “tza tun tzat” (a place where it is easy to get lost). It was historically used for initiation rituals and as a test for those aspiring to become priests, healers, or other professionals. The labyrinth features three levels symbolizing the cosmic realms of the Mayan world: celestial, terrestrial, and underworld. During a visit, from the top of the pyramids, one can enjoy stunning natural landscapes, hills that are actually unexcavated structures, as well as admire sculptures, chultunes (underground huts for storing water), arches, entrances, esplanades, cobblestone paths or sacbés, and remarkable ornamental structures.
