Crocodiles and Flamingos and Fun! - We had a great time.
The meetup at Parque Hidalgo was easy, and straightforward. It wasn’t hard to spot our bus! I accidentally booked one ticket too few for my party. After a quick phone call, we paid in cash for an extra seat as there was room in our small bus, and all was well.
As we rode to Celestún, our guide Jorge introduced himself in both English and Spanish, along with his driver Wilson. He told us about some geological and cultural history, biology (he is a biologist), and he was pleasant and funny. The bus was clean and modern, and our driver was safe and focused.
We made it out to Celestún and stopped to use the restroom and grab a drink, then hopped on a boat and made our way into the preserve. The boat’s canopy made the sun mostly a non issue but definitely sun screen yourself.
On the way to the Flamingoes we saw a ton of wildlife, mainly birds but also fish and a swimming crab. Once we got to flamingoes, they seemed to be everywhere and flying around us. In a couple of cases they were flying alongside the boat.
We spent several minutes watching these birds and then moved on to Isla de Pájaros, a small mangrove island that is full of all kinds of birds. We were able to get close up without disturbing the birds by circling the mangroves in the boat.
We stopped at a couple of known crocodile hangouts and spotted one juvenile sunning itself on a beach, and got right up close to it without disturbing it. We also went into visit an amazing freshwater spring that pumps crystal clear water up from underground and is teeming with fish. And there was a crocodile hanging out on the far side of the spring, lazily sunning by itself.
For me the highlight was a short trip through the mangrove in a tunnel-like passage where we turned the motor off and sat in silence listening to the jungle, surrounded by bird noises and spotting all kinds of fish in the brackish water between the roots. Pufferfish, needlefish, various cichlids, mollies, and others I didn’t know. We also saw the birding highlight of the day, a Garza Tigre (tiger heron) about two feet from my face fishing for its lunch.
We wrapped up the boat tour and drove to Pompanos in Celestún, and had a delicious and filling seafood lunch. The beach was fun for the kids, full of shells and soft sand. The water was warm and waves were just perfect for kids. Sunscreen is a must! We played for a couple hours into the afternoon and had a leisurely, enjoyable drive home while the kids napped.
Altogether this was an unforgettable experience for the kids and for us and I would recommend Guías de Yucatan. I booked through TripAdvisor. We will be back!

Fun and relaxing - We had a super day communing with nature and enjoying time on the beach. The minibus that transported us was clean and surprisingly spacious (we travelled with a lovely family from the US). Our guide Eff was kind and informative and we got close to numerous bird varieties (flamingos aplenty) crocs and fish. Definitely worth the visit.

Excellent Celestun trip - Our trip to Celestun was quite enjoyable. Our guide Alondra was excellent! She knew a lot of information to share with us and provided a comfortable drive to and from Merida as well. We enjoyed the boat ride, the variety of birds and of course, the pink flamingos. Note nature has its own timing. Despite reading we should expect to see hundreds of pink flamingos through Feb. we saw closer to a few dozen on this mid Jan trip. It was enough to still be a wonderful treat just sharing fyi. The time at the beach was fine, the good fish lunch actually better than we expected with clearly freshly caught fish.

A bit unusual - The information is not clear regarding this excursion, we had four people in our group and while driving there the guide informed us we’d have to pay an extra 1000 paseos since the boat only left with a minimum of six people!!! Or we could wait for two more people to join us, this should have been make clear from the beginning.
Also the trip says it EXCLUDES lunch, alcoholic beverages and soda which is unusual but ok we were prepared for this, The guide told us that lunch was included but no beverages, it was a bit confusing!
Overall nice trip, friendly people our guide was great, spoke English very well and was super knowledgeable. The website for this excursion needs to be fine tuned and be more transparent.
Thank you.

Amazing up close views of the flamingos. - Our guide Alondra was excellent. She was informative and spoke English very well. I’d hire her for any tour any day. Our meal at the beach club was delicious and I enjoyed a chance to swim in the ocean.
Warning! Don’t prepay your tip for the guide when you use the company-provided Clip payment platform. Guias de Yucatán management keeps a large portion for themselves. It’s better to tip your guide directly. Especially if they are as good as Alondra!
