Great Orientation to Beale Street - This is a great way for a solo traveler or a couple on their own time frame to get important and fascinating history about a specific area. I was on my own in Memphis and downloaded the Beale Street Experience, using it to guide my initial walkthrough of this area. Really helped me understand the history behind Beale Street and some of the important characters that helped it thrive.

Give Memphis a try, it needs You! - Sadly to say, the city of Memphis needs a facelift and investors who can recreate what the city once had. It is full of history but because of the flight to the suburbs and the safety issues the city is lacking in vitality. The city government or state tourism department needs to come up with a plan to clean it up and make Beale Street come alive again. Only with a foreseeable change and a time constraint plan to improve the area will tourist return. If measures aren’t put into place the city will continue to deteriorate. Graceland and the Elvis Presley facility brings tourists to view his life. I would say the majority of the tourist go here first then set out to find other things to explore. While walking through the tour there seemed to be more foreigners than people from the USA. Many different languages were spoken. As a tourist myself I am glad I saw the city. Took in Graceland and the Elvis tour, Beale Street walking tour and got to listen to a blues player and his group playing on a small stage tucked between two buildings, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Lorraine Hotel, Sun Studios, drove by St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and the pyramid shaped Bass Pro Store.
