Melnik, deemed the smallest town in Bulgaria, is cozily situated on the southern slopes of Pirin mountain, amid bizarrely shaped sand pyramids. Evidence from archeological excavations confirms its history spanning many centuries. The delectable wine produced by the distinct Bulgarian label ‘Wide Melnik Vine’ amazes with its quality, boasting hints of ripe cherry, herbs and if combined with oak, notes of tobacco and leather are unveiled.
You’ll be given a chance for a lunch break at a local eatery, then you’ll proceed to the nearby ‘Rupite’ territory, situated roughly 30 km away from Melnik. This location is viewed as sacred due to its connection with the celebrated Bulgarian clairvoyant Vanga, who passed her final years there. Adjacent to the house where she lived, the church of Saint Petka was constructed in 1994, notable for its unique frescoes and icon paintings style.
