Highlight of my Colombian trip - We were initially with Zippy tours but ended up getting Stiven from Storytellers, and we are so thankful for this change. Stiven is probably the best tour guide i have had in my life, he connects with his group and tells his story of growing up in Communa 13. His heartfelted stories brought tears to my eyes, joy to my heart, and hope for the future as the change still continues today. The tour is a window to the past, where we learn about the history of Medellín and how the community is now safe. Once again try to get Stiven as your guide!!!! Thank you so so much for the highlight of my Colombian trip.

Excellent Tour - We have just done the Comuna 13 tour with Stiven. It was an excellent morning spent learning about the history of the place right from how people came to live on the hills, through the many violent regimes that controlled them over time to the hopeful rejuvenation the area is currently undergoing. It was such a privilege to have a local guide share some of his personal stories with us. He was so passionate about his home place, its history and how he is trying to help change it for the better. An excellent tour all round. A highlight of our time in Colombia. The one difficulty is finding their information online. They have a new website which comes up down the list on google searches, please persevere. You will not regret doing this tour.

Amazing experience with a local guide! - Can’t recommend the tour of comuna 13 enough. My mate did it last year and told me is was a must and he wasn’t wrong. Esteban was great and very knowledgeable of the local area. All guides are locals who grew up in the area who learnt English as part of a program which I think is a amazing idea.

Graffiti Walking Tour with Yulieth: Comuna 13 - We walked Comuna 13 to see all the Graffiti Wall Art which was really cool. Yulieth explained the history and the meaning of a few pieces. She lives in the area so was very knowledgeable and passionate about her work. The last 45 minutes we didn't walk around but instead heard more about her story and the history of Comuna 13. I wish we could have walked around more and seen more Graffiti Art as it was so cool to see all the different pieces. Outdoor Escalators is something I've never come across before.

Informative, but a bit more intense than advertised - We took the afternoon tour, expecting a safe, informative round trip to Communa 13 and the escalators. While somewhat informative, and definitely interesting, it ended up being a one way trip. We had to find our way back on our own to the train station in the 45 minutes left before the sun went down. Our tour guide grew up in the neighborhood, and he both kept us on track and provided some interesting information about the area's history and recent issues. But his personal connection to the neighborhood was a little intense, making the tour at times somewhat uncomfortable. We did understand the history of the area prior to the tour, but expected (perhaps) a focus on urban renewal. This was not quite that. Emotions and passion remained raw, which is to be expected, but don't go on this tour if you just want to take selfies in front of paintings. There are better options for that. The escalators and murals were very cool, and it was cool to see the public transit gondolas near the train station, but if you go, be sure to bring some taxi money, and leave the valuables at home.
