Highlights

Embark on your culinary adventure by air-conditioned vehicle after hotel pickup. Your friendly guide will introduce you to Colombia’s traditional local cuisine at a variety of popular spots. En route, hear descriptions of typical plates and then visit well-regarded local restaurants with your small group.

Your guide translates and explains the menu, offering plenty of time to experience the regional flavors and hear about local customs. Discover the culinary delights of Medellín as you taste favorite dishes, including snack and desserts, along with one beverage included with your food.

Depending on which option you select, try a traditional mid-morning or mid-afternoon plate, such as empanadas, pan de yuca (yucca bread) or the omnipresent arepa, flat bread made from various types of corn. Somewhat bland when eaten by itself, it can transform into a tasty treat when stuffed with meat or cheese, or eaten with eggs for breakfast. (Add a little butter and honey and you have a delicious alternative to toast!) Bandeja Paisa, mondongo (tripe stew) or ajiaco (chicken stew) may be some of the delectable dishes on offer for dinner.

For dessert you might taste buñuelos (fried dough balls), natilla (custard), salpicon de frutas (fruit cocktail), fresas con crema (strawberries and cream), bocadillos (guava-paste sweets) or merengon (meringue). Entertain your own child-like curiosity with a sticky confection called oblea, made of two thin pastry wafers filled with cheese and arequipe (milk, sugar and baking soda)
Medellín offers everything from fast food and pizza joints to elegant, high-end dining, and your guide provides insight on all of the city’s gastronomic offerings. You’ll be taken to 4 different venues the locals prefer, but your guide can point out fancier international restaurants if you’d like a recommendation. Your small-group tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

Colombian delights - It is very interesting to discover and enjoy the flavors of Colombian cuisine with its rich colors and textures. The ones made with corn like arepas and buñuelos were my favorites.

Brilliant tour of street food in the South of Medellin - After a tour with Luis Reyes in the north of Medellin, we went on a tour to the South to explore Sabaneta. Luis is so knowledgeable, courteous, and enjoyable to spend time with and I was lucky that it was just me on the tour for this evening. We ate the most delicious food and he guided me well and responded to my preferences (which were really to try anything!). The food was delicious and he tried multiple vendors to make sure I could have morcilla which I was eager to try. It was a totally new experience for me and I tried many things I never had before, while learning about Colombian culture. The tour ran over time as I wanted to enjoy a beer afterwards and this was no issue for Luis. I managed to leave my larger bag with my valuables in the boot of his car and he drove back to my accommodation once he realised to return it to me - after such a fun evening I had completely forgotten about it! I really recommend a food tour with Luis if you want to understand more about Colombian food and culture and you’d like to get adventurous with street food - something I am usually a bit cautious about. It’s a great tour to do on your own as I did, and I’m sure would be fun with company also.

Brilliant way to learn about Colombian food and culture - I had a wonderful guide, Luis Reyes. He took me to San Javier and guided me through the exciting streets full of street food. During the drive there we spoke a lot about Colombian culture and he helped me practise my Spanish although his English is perfect - he was very helpful and patient with my practice. You can door the tour in either language very comfortably. Luis knew the best places to go to and I had so much fun with him! I really cannot recommend a tour with Luis enough. He was fun, courteous, knowledgeable and mindful of my safety at all times. I got to learn a lot about Colombian food and culture.

Awesome food & fun tour guide - Excellent food David was super nice & flexible; I felt like I was hanging out & having a good time with a local friend as opposed to a tour guide. I ran into him a couple of times after our tour and it was 😎 Next time we come to Colombia I’ll be sure to contact him.

We had a wonderful day! - We had such a wonderful day with Luis! Not only was he kind, helpful and knowledgable about the food, but he was also nice enough to tell us more about Medellin and the sights we were driving past. My dad is in a wheelchair so theres a lot he usually cant do. But this tour was perfect. Luis helped with the wheelchair and made sure we were ok wherever we went. This tour, and tourguide Luis especially, is highly recommended!

Fun, if not overpriced - We had a memorable experience with Fabio and enjoyed the food. We learned a lot about Colombian food and culture. We took the dinner tour on a Friday night and found the drive very long, maybe it is not as bad at other times or other days. I am scratching my head about why this tour can’t be conducted in the central city, but I knew what I signed up for and it was cool to experience a different part of Medellin. Lastly, the tour was really overpriced, I am sorry to report. I throughly enjoyed it, but not a great value.

Skip - I would not recommend this tour. The guide was very pleasant, but did not have much of a plan and was not very knowledgeable about food. He did know a lot about Colombian culture. In the 4 hours, we were only able to get to two of the four promised destinations because they were all so very far apart. There was a significant amount of time sitting in the car trying to get across the city. The food we had was tasty, but nothing that required the travel times we committed to. We could have easily found local restaurants that served this food. Would not recommend.
