As the sun began its gentle ascent over the Indian Ocean, I found myself embarking on a journey that promised to be as enchanting as the tales of old. The day began with the arrival of Manu, our guide for the day, whose punctuality and warm greeting set the tone for what was to be a seamless adventure. Our first destination was the dormant volcano, Trou Aux Cerfs, a majestic reminder of the earth’s ancient power. The journey continued to Alexandra Falls, where the cascading waters sang a song of serenity. Here, amidst the verdant landscape, we paused to refresh ourselves with fresh coconuts, their sweet nectar a perfect accompaniment to the symphony of nature. The local artisan stalls offered a glimpse into the island’s vibrant culture, each handcrafted piece telling its own story.

A Dance with the Elements

Our exploration led us to the Bois Cherri Tea Factory, a place where the art of tea-making has been perfected over generations. As we wandered through the estate, the aroma of freshly brewed tea filled the air, a fragrant reminder of the island’s rich heritage. It was here that we encountered a friendly wild boar and her piglets, a charming surprise that delighted the child within me.

The next chapter of our adventure unfolded at the Twenty-Three Colored Earth, a natural wonder that defies explanation. The vibrant hues of the sand, a result of volcanic activity, created a surreal landscape that seemed to dance under the sun’s gentle caress. Opting to explore on foot, we were rewarded with encounters with the island’s wildlife, each creature a testament to the resilience of nature.

Among the highlights was meeting a giant tortoise, a creature so ancient it seemed to carry the wisdom of the ages on its back. Mistaken at first for a large bench, this gentle giant was a reminder of the timeless beauty that exists in the world, waiting to be discovered by those who take the time to look.

As the day drew to a close, we found ourselves at a beach viewpoint, the perfect setting for a leisurely lunch.
