Setting Sail on the Eastern Coast

The anticipation was palpable as I stood at the Pointe Jerome Embarkation Point, ready to embark on the Mauritius Catamaran Adventure. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a golden hue over the tranquil waters of the lagoon. As a marine biologist, the allure of exploring the vibrant marine life of Mauritius was irresistible. The catamaran, a spacious vessel with ample shaded areas and inviting nets at the front, promised a day of both relaxation and adventure.

Our journey began with a warm welcome from the crew, who expertly guided us through the safety protocols and itinerary for the day. With about 30 fellow adventurers on board, the atmosphere was lively yet serene. As we set sail, the gentle breeze and the rhythmic sound of the waves created a calming backdrop to the excitement that lay ahead.

A Feast for the Senses

As we cruised along the eastern coast, the crew prepared a sumptuous feast that tantalized our senses. The aroma of barbecued sausages, chicken skewers, and tuna wafted through the air, mingling with the salty sea breeze. Accompanied by fresh salads, the meal was a delightful culinary experience that perfectly complemented the stunning views around us.

Breakfast had been a treat of fresh croissants and hot drinks, setting the tone for a day of indulgence. The selection of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, catered to every taste. I couldn’t resist trying the infamous jungle juice, a concoction that certainly lived up to its reputation.

Discovering Hidden Treasures

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the exploration of the Grande Riviere Sud Est waterfall and the snorkeling adventure in the protected lagoon. The waterfall, a majestic cascade surrounded by lush greenery, was a sight to behold. As we approached, the sound of the rushing water was both exhilarating and soothing.

Snorkeling in the shallow seas was a dream come true. The vibrant coral reefs and the myriad of colorful fish were a testament to the rich biodiversity of the region. As I floated above the underwater paradise, I couldn’t help but marvel at the wonders of the ocean, a reminder of why I fell in love with marine biology in the first place.

Our final stop was Ile aux Cerfs, where we spent a leisurely hour exploring the island’s pristine beaches and lush landscapes. The day had been perfectly paced, with each moment offering a new discovery. As we sailed back to Pointe Jerome, the setting sun painted the sky in hues of orange and pink, a fitting end to an unforgettable adventure.
