Awesome kayak and snorkel tour - Wonderful kayak and snorkel from Olowalu Beach with Chris. We had a great time, seeing many sea turtles, including ones having their shells cleaned by fishes. Chris was very knowledgeable, sharing his stories and information with us. He took excellent care of us and this private tour was so much better than the group kayak/snorkel tours we have been on. Loved every minute and will be booking with him again next time we're in Maui. Mahalo Chris.

Early morning trip best for clear waters! Our kayak guide made sure we were comfortable with the gear. And took a ton of pics of us both under and above !

No Need to Overthink It -- Book with Tropical Guides! - I was with my family on Maui in May of 2023 (a bit too late for the humpbacks). On a friend's adamant recommendation (because he and his family had such a great experience), we reached out to Tropical Guides and booked ourselves a private adventure with Chris Our morning with Chris was the highlight of our trip! He gives a great tour of the Olowalu reef system, ensures safety every step of the way, takes care of all the details, and takes awesome photos of the whole thing. Communication prior to our adventure was clear and easy and responsive. He has fantastic knowledge of the Hawaiian Islands, and has a consistently great vibe while he's sharing it If we had it to do over again, we would repeat our "private" preference. It's obvious that Chris would navigate a group of up to 8 people really well. But we liked how nimble we could be since it was just us We'll be back during humpback season within the next few years, and Tropical Guides will be our first booking!

Fun and beautiful - I loved every single moment of this trip! Our guide Chris was super fun and knowledgable! Before we got on our kayaks, Chris explained to us what fish we were going to see and should pay attention to. Once we were in the sea we calmly paddled in group, with him explaining us a little about the area and how he ended up there, until we finally arrived to the snorkeling spot. Getting out of the kayaks was as easy as getting in later on. Once we got into the water we could understand how special that spot was. We saw numerous turtles, from old ones to young ones, as well as beautiful fishes all around. Chris was going around pointing things to us, taking amazing photos that he later shared with us. The time passed way too fast, I honestly didn't want to go back. Chris made it all better and I'm not very good at leaving reviews, so this one comes super late (I did the trip over Thanksgiving week). But I'm back to book the Whale kayaking tour he told me about last time, and I can't wait!

Amazing!! - This was the best experience while in Maui. Chris was our tour guide and was amazing. It took a little while to find the whales, but once we did- it was so worth it! We were running short on time but Chris was great and made sure we got some snorkel time in too where we saw tons of sea turtles. Overall, an amazing experience and 10/10 would definitely do again.

Fantastic Trip! - Highly recommend Tropical Guides & Outfitters. Chris was an awesome guide and we had a fantastic time. Chris got us efficiently set-up with our gear and safety precautions. He then took us out on a beautiful paddle where we saw and heard whales sing (wow!). My daughter mentioned she loved turtles, so he took us to a great little snorkel spot where we saw 5 turtles! While we snorkeled, Chris took photos underwater of us and the turtles, fish, etc. The photos are so cool (and digital downloads are free!).

The best snorkel guide - I highly recommend this tour with Chris. Starts off with Chris giving you a quick lesson on Kayak safety and what to expect out on the tour. He also walks you through the various species of fish and marine life that you might encounter during the tour. Chris paid special attention to the small things - type of sunscreen, fresh water, rules and regulations, and how to safely interact with marine life, which showcased his deep respect for the sea life. He also enthralled us with Hawaii culture and history, and narrating the different aspects of history during the tour. During the snorkel tour, he pointed us to the spots where we had a bunch of sea turtles and corals. He also took great photographs and pointed out different marine species. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone heading to Maui, and I will definitely go back for another tour with Chris from Tropical Guides And Outfitters because the quality of this tour was par excellent. A mandatory experience in Maui: kayaking and snorkeling with Chris - What an amazing private tour with Chris as our guide. He gave a thorough review of kayaking and snorkeling tips, along with a history of Maui, an introductory course to the Hawaiian language, and an overview of the sea life of the area. He knew our main goal was to swim with turtles and got us to the reef early on so that we could beat the crowds. We swam with so many turtles!! He was patient in teaching us water safety as beginner swimmers and adjusted the tour when we started to feel a little motion sick. Overall a life changing experience, and Chris captured it all with his beautiful photos. A must do when traveling to Maui.

Overall fun tour - Fun tour! Our guide was very talkative and knowledgable about the ocean and Hawaii! Got to see lots of whales jumping around and it was a beautiful day out! Kayaked around the water and waited for whales to jump out and then tried following them around. We didn’t get to snorkel for very long because we spent too long looking at the whales. I was a little disappointed about that, because I really wanted to see a turtle and be able to swim around. I thought there would be some sort of schedule so we would spend a certain amount of time in the kayaks and a certain amount of time snorkeling. Snacks were just a nature valley granola bar and some canned juice that we got after we finished snorkeling. There was also an option photo package for $60… Didn’t realize those would just be taken with our guide’s iPhone. Afterwards I asked if I could see the photos before purchasing and was told that since the photos were already taken, I needed to pay for them. I was disappointed with that, because I only asked for the photo package in the middle of the tour because our guide said he got a really good photo of me with a whale. After purchasing and finally seeing the photo, I was halfway blocked by other people in kayaks from my tour. Not too happy about that since that was the only reason I asked for the photos. Also everyone that purchases a photo package gets ALL the photos. A little weird to think that everyone else in the tour has a lot of photos to me in their camera roll now. Our guide was also not scared to ask for tips. At the end of the tour he made about 3 comments reminding us to tip him. I’m all for tipping, but paying my guide $60 for some average iPhone photos and then him personally asking me for more when I’m about to pay him was a little annoying. I would probably ask for a different guide if I ever did this tour again.
