Highlights
  • 10600 Hana Hwy - Embark on an adventure through the lush private canyon of a rainforest, navigating down cliffs and cascades with a secure rope system. Trek across stream-fed paths and natural terrain, and take a dip in the pristine freshwater basins. Come rain or shine, the journey into the rainforest is a constant. The weather and waterfalls are dynamic natural elements that can shift quickly without notice. In the event of flooding from rainfall, when waterfalls become thunderous or engorged, and the valley buzzes with intense or rapid water movement, rappelling directly down the waterfalls may not be safe. On such occasions, we opt for 40- to 115-foot descents from the jungle’s edge, maintaining a safe distance from the active waterways. Be aware that rainfall is a daily occurrence in the rainforest.

Additional Information

Envision yourself descending waterfalls in a secluded valley in the renowned Road to Hana rainforest. Rappelling, a widely enjoyed adventure and gravity sport, involves descending from a steep incline or wall using secure ropes. With direction and supervision from skilled instructors, you’ll utilize professional gear to venture into the wild of Maui, a location portrayed in the film, Jurassic Park. This activity is perfect for active families, couples, groups, and individual adventurers who enjoy thrilling outdoor activities. Participants need to be at least 10 years old, weigh between 70 and 250 lbs., and have a waist size from 22 to 48 inches. All equipment, including shoes, is provided. Regardless of the weather, we venture to the rainforest. Quick changes can occur with naturally forming waterfalls, especially during precipitation. A truly magical experience! - Elena, Jonas and Naomi made our rappel experience amazing! We did a lot of amazing things in Hawaii and this was at the top of the list. We spent the most time with Naomi, because she was with us at the bottom of each rappel and brought us from place to place. She was absolutely AMAZING and made the entire experience that much better! The experience was very secluded since tourists aren’t allowed in the area where you rappel so you get a private tour of some amazing spots! Plus, the area where you rappel is part of where they filmed Jurassic park. It’s that cool!

Safe, exciting adventure - This was an amazing experience and the company is awesome too. I made a mistake in my booking and they were really nice to still accommodate our family of three. So grateful to them. I called a few times with questions about the experience and when I had the booking mishap and the lady I spoke with was polite, knowledgeable and understanding. This was our first time rappelling and Shanna and Abbie were the BEST guides. My teenage son and hubby are quite fit and although a bit nervous were excited to try this. I was pretty terrified as I am somewhat afraid of heights and not as fit as them. But Shanna gave me fabulous tips and allowed me to go as slow as I wanted so that I was comfortable. I was even able to stop in the middle of the rappel so my son could take some pictures as I was coming down. They provide life jackets, shoes and helmets and my hubby who is not a swimmer was comfortable swimming to the shore after the waterfall rappels. Would definitely recommend this activity in Maui. I have not seen it offered for beginners in other places so this is a beautiful place to experience this.

Awesome Experience! - Rappel Maui was wonderful to work with from the very beginning. We were a group of 12 trying to book in advance and coordinate our schedules. Rappel Maui helped us book back-to-back tours with 6 of us on each tour. They were very accomodating and helpful. Everyone loved it except for our 14-year-old who successfully completed all of the rappels but said she probably wouldn't do it again. Full disclosure -- our adventurous family urges her into situations she likely would never choose on her own. Outside of echoing everyone else's reviews (amazing staff, great safety, fun for all ages) I will only say that the hike back up at the end might be too much for people who have any mobility concerns. My 73yo father had a knee replacement 6 months prior and did very well. However, he definitely paid for it the next day. During booking the staff said there was a long stair climb but the guide would go slowly. This was mostly true. It was more like a hike out, with some "steps" being pretty steep. My nuclear family is from CO so we motored right up. My bro's family from NY did just fine, too. And my dad certainly made it (and thoroughly loved the rappelling BTW). However, I can see how others with less of a go-getter personality and even slight mobility issues would not love it. My advice is that if you have any physical concerns at all, spend some time talking with the scheduling folks and thoroughly understanding the experience before you book.

Wonderful experience! Totally recommended. - Definitely a lifetime highlight! The guides, Shauna and Naomi were hilarious and informative while always putting safety first. I was worried about the physical aspect, but it was not an issue. The scenery is unparalleled, and the adventure of rappelling down the falls and hiking along the stream to the next descent was amazing. Shauna and Naomi were delightful companions along the way as well as insightful guides. Put this on your bucket list!
