Unforgettable experience of a lifetime - Riding the switchbacks was thrilling! And we loved being able to shop and explore the little town too. There isn’t a specified time you have to return and that freedom was lovely. The driver was both informative and entertaining, I felt safe and loved seeing the bright stars in anticipation of the sunrise.

Guides make it even better! - Even though the clouds prevented the spectacular sunrise we hoped for, our guide (Corey) was awesome and made sure we experienced all the tour had to offer. He was full of knowledge and history about the island, witty, sharp and just an overall delight first thing in the morning! And, let’s be honest, riding a bike down a mountain on Maui is not a bad way to start your day! Well worth the experience!!

Love the self-guided tour! - I enjoy doing this trip every time we come here; this is our 7th time doing it. The only downside is that they changed where you ride the bikes now. We loved riding through Kula and stopping at the Kula Lodge for breakfast; a great hallway point in the bike ride. Now you stop before Kula, re-load the bikes and get back on a bus. This takes you down past Kula and then you get dropped off with your bikes to continue the ride.

Amazing experience! - This was one of the coolest things we have ever done! It was an early morning to see the sunrise but so worth it. Bring lots of layers as it is freezing and windy at the top of Haleakala. The self-guided bike tour was awesome. We saw so many cool views upon biking down the mountain! The bikes were easy to use and the guides were hilarious and helpful! Bring some lighter clothes for the bike ride as it does get warm biking down. Overall, a fantastic experience!

5 stars! - We decided to do the Self Guided Haleakala Sunrise Bike Tour our first day in Maui and are so glad we did! We loved our guide, Marlin! He was knowledgable and personable. He also genuinely cared about our group and their experience. The early wake up call and long drive did not feel nearly as long with his stories and recommendations. We got lucky and had a gorgeous day. Bike Maui provided wind breaker pants and jackets which were essential and allowed us to enjoy the sunrise on a windy morning. Our bike down was also great and a once in a lifetime experience. Would highly recommend Marlin and this tour!

Almost perfect! - Everything about this place was perfect except for one. The views remarkable the sliders opening all the way up to let the breeze fly thru perfect. Everything we could have needed beach chairs, wagon, dishes, even binoculars! The only thing needed to make this a 5star would be new beds, one bedroom has two beds pushed together and the other is lumpy like your in the hole of another body form, still able to sleep however but that would be it everything else was perfect!!! And did I mention the balcony so big we enjoyed breakfast out there with a table for four and two more for lounging. Thank you so much we loved loved loved our stay!

Unsure what part is self guided? Not biking down the volcano, longer than expected - Was excited for this tour due to the high reviews and was disappointed. Had to meet at 3:30AM which was surpyringing for a 7 am sunrise- felt could have met an hour later, rather than waiting up in the cold. Forgot the tour guides name but spoke the entire time up and spoke about giving tips/how expensive Hawaii is etc (not great way to start a tour). We drove to the top and waited almost an hour for sunrise- could have came later. Then driven to another spot for photos, and then to the bikes. I understood that we would be biking down to the bottom and a self guided tour- unsure what part is self guided since you're with the group the entire time. You only got to bike down one small section which then you had to wait for everyone, have everyone load the bikes back and take the bus back UP to do it again- the same place the same route. You stopped in the same spot and loaded onto the bus and drove to the next town. At this point I had enough since the tour was advertised as 6 am and the tour guide said we wouldn't be done until 12/1. I asked if the worker with the bikes could drive me back to Haiku (meet up spot) . Unsure what part would be considered self guided? Everything was with the group, you barely bike down the volcano- just one part done twice. The tour guides flat jokes and talking about tipping/money and his life story for 2 hours in the morning wasn't great either. The sunrise itself was spectacular !
