Just do it! Amazing experience! - We had an absolutely fabulous ride with Joe and our van driver Spencer. Nothing but love! Safety is their main concern, the bikes are purpose built for downhill riding, lots of helmet sizes, they provide a cute little bottle of water and granola bars, and my wife said this was her favorite excursion of all of them we've ever done! Joe is the down to earth "beach bum" bike rider, been leading tours for decades, had a great sense of humor, and this was much more fun than the go-by-myself self tour. If you're ever unconformable or just tired, you get to ride down in the van. Didn't have that option riding by myself. Highly recommended!

Amazing experience!! - Joe and Spencer were amazing. Joe was extremely patient with the novice riders and gave freedom to those who were confident. Spencer provided interesting fact about Maui, the Hawaiian culture, and history. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for adventure and doing things out of the norm!!!

Fun bike ride on any weather - Our first tour in Maui did not disappoint. Despite some light rain and fog we all had a blast riding down the Haleakala Crater road. Our bike leader, Bobby, was entertaining and helpful to everyone in the group. I had not been on a bike in years and the downhill trip was very easy and memorable. Would highly recommend!

Get up early to get down - Had a great time going down the mountain with my 15 year old son. As long as you obey the rules it is safe. The van trails you down the mountain to slow down and/or stop cars from passing you. My favorite was the unattended 5 mile lazy coasting back to the headquarters I think I pedaled twice the whole time I was on the bike. Stopped in a small town for Pog and malasadas. Manny, a native, was super friendly Bring a hoodie for the mountain top it’s in the mid 50’s.

Fantastic, Unique Experience! - We had the best time on our bike tour!!! Such a unique and fun thing to do in Maui. We learned so many cool facts about the island from our guides and the bike tour itself is a lot of fun and so scenic and beautiful! They also take you to the cute village Makawao which we loved because of the amazing shopping!! Can't recommend Maui Mountain Riders enough! They are awesome.

(A whole lot) Less Than Advertised - Let me preface this review by saying it was a great experience on a nice day with a fun and knowledgeable guide. That said, the bike tour was not as advertised which was surprising and disappointing. Here is what the Trip Advisor ad said: ....…pedal the 26-mile bike route down the slopes of Haleakala. Continue through the switchbacks of Haleakala Ranch, the upcountry town of Kula, and Makawao, and finish in beachside town of Paia. From this description, it is clear that participants will be riding their bikes the full 26 miles. There is no other conclusion one could draw from this. That didn't happen. First of all, we didn't go to the top of Haleakala but started miles away where the switchbacks start. Apparently, the only bike tours that do that are the ones at sunrise which ours wasn't. This was the first lie. At the bottom of the switchbacks, our group, surprisingly, loaded our bikes into the van and proceeded to ride the van down the mountain for miles until hitting the village where we stayed for a half hour or so. Then we all got back in the van and rode several more miles down the road until eventually stopping and finally getting back on our bikes to cruise the remaining distance back to the start. We didn't come close to biking 26 miles, much less the entire trip down. That was the second lie. Let me be clear. What we did was enjoyable but it was not what we paid for, and it sure as hell wasn't as advertised, leaving us feeling shortchanged with a much less than satisfied feeling upon completion.

No summit and limited route- be aware of what you are getting - We booked this as one of our excursions through Norwegian cruise. It was ok. I thought we would go to the peak but found out when we got there we only went about 2/3 of the way up. Then there is a middle section of the road now closed to tourists so we did the top part of our ride 2x. Then got back in the van and drove through the middle section. We stopped at a town for food/shopping before riding the last few miles down which is downhill but not really a mountain type experience anymore at lower elevation. Our group did not stay together. If that makes you nervous you can go more slow and stay with the guide. If I had known the itinerary I might not have booked this since I really wanted to go into the Haleakala National park and get to the summit.
