Aloha to the Waves

As a seasoned surfer who’s spent countless hours chasing the perfect wave across Central America, I found myself drawn to the allure of Maui’s legendary surf scene. My wife and I, always on the lookout for new adventures, decided to take a detour from our usual haunts and experience the magic of Maui Surf Instruction 101 at Kalama Beach in Kihei. The promise of warm waters and friendly locals was too tempting to resist.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the laid-back vibe that only a Hawaiian beach town can offer. The sun was shining, the palm trees swayed gently in the breeze, and the sound of the ocean was a constant, soothing presence. Meeting our instructors at the truck in the parking lot, we were immediately put at ease by their friendly demeanor and infectious enthusiasm. It was clear that they were passionate about sharing their love for surfing with newcomers and seasoned surfers alike.

Riding the Hawaiian Waves

The lesson began with a brief onshore instruction, covering the basics of surf etiquette and safety. Even for someone like me, who has spent years riding waves, it was a refreshing reminder of the fundamentals. Our instructor, Ricky Bobby, was a natural teacher, blending humor with practical advice that made the learning process enjoyable for everyone involved.

Once we hit the water, the real fun began. The waves at Kalama Beach were gentle yet exhilarating, providing the perfect playground for surfers of all skill levels. Navigating through the crowd of fellow surfers was a bit of a challenge, but it added to the excitement of the experience. With Ricky Bobby’s guidance, we were able to catch wave after wave, each ride more thrilling than the last.

Capturing the Moment

One of the highlights of the day was the incredible photography service offered by the company. As someone who has surfed in some of the most picturesque locations in the world, I can attest to the difficulty of capturing the essence of a surfing experience in a photograph. However, the photographers at Kalama Beach managed to do just that. They captured the joy, the thrill, and the sheer beauty of surfing in Maui with stunning precision.

While the photos were a bit on the pricey side, they were worth every penny. Each image was a testament to the unforgettable day we had on the waves, a memory that we could take with us on our nomadic journey. As we packed up our gear and said our goodbyes, we knew that this was an experience we would cherish forever. And, like the reviewer before me, we too plan to return to Maui and relive the magic of Maui Surf Instruction 101 at Kalama Beach.
