Aloha to the Waves

As a seasoned surfer who’s spent countless hours chasing the perfect wave across Central America, I found myself drawn to the allure of Maui’s Ukumehame Beach. Known for its beginner-friendly surf, it seemed like the perfect spot to experience the joy of surfing from a fresh perspective. My wife and I, always eager for a new adventure, decided to join a beginner lesson at the Maui Surf School and see what the island had to offer.

Upon arrival, the warm Hawaiian sun greeted us, casting a golden glow over the beach. The instructors, with their laid-back island vibe, immediately made us feel at home. They took us through a 15-minute land lesson, covering safety measures and the basics of popping up on the board. Despite my years of experience, it was refreshing to revisit the fundamentals and see the excitement in the eyes of first-timers around me.

With the land lesson complete, we headed out into the water. The ocean was alive with energy, the waves rolling in with a playful rhythm.
