Chasing Waterfalls and History in Lombok’s Heart
Trading waves for waterfalls, I embarked on a journey through Lombok’s lush landscapes and rich history. From the breathtaking Benang Stokel and Kelambu Waterfalls to the historical Pura Agung Narmada, this adventure offered a unique glimpse into the island’s soul.
A Journey to the Heart of Lombok
As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean’s rhythm, but this time, I decided to trade the waves for waterfalls. My wife and I found ourselves in Mataram, Lombok, ready to embark on a private tour to explore the Benang Stokel and Kelambu Waterfalls, along with a historical site of a Balinese king. The promise of lush landscapes and cultural history was too tempting to resist.
Our adventure began with a drive through the scenic countryside of Lombok, where the air was fresh and the views were nothing short of spectacular. The island’s natural beauty was a refreshing change from the salty sea breeze I was accustomed to. As we approached the foothills of Mount Rinjani, the anticipation grew. The towering peaks and verdant forests whispered promises of hidden treasures waiting to be discovered.
Discovering the Waterfalls
Our first stop was the Benang Stokel Waterfall. The sound of cascading water greeted us long before we saw it, a symphony of nature that drew us closer. The waterfall, with its 20-meter drop, was a sight to behold. The water was crystal clear, flowing from the river upstream on Mount Rinjani. It was a perfect spot to take a dip and let the cool water wash away the travel fatigue.
Next, we ventured to the Benang Kelambu Waterfall. This one was even more enchanting, with water flowing down like a delicate curtain over the lush greenery. It felt like stepping into a hidden paradise, a place where time seemed to stand still. We spent hours here, soaking in the tranquility and marveling at the untouched beauty of nature.
A Glimpse into History
The final leg of our tour took us to the Pura Agung Narmada, a historical site that dates back to 1805. This palace of a Balinese king offered a fascinating glimpse into the past. The miniature of Mount Rinjani and Segara Anak lake, complete with a holy temple on top, was a testament to the island’s rich cultural heritage.
Walking through the palace grounds, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the history that surrounded us. It was a stark contrast to the carefree life of surfing, yet equally captivating. The stories of the past seemed to echo through the halls, inviting us to learn and explore.
As the day came to an end, I realized that this journey was more than just a tour. It was an exploration of the soul of Lombok, a place where nature and history intertwine to create something truly magical. For those looking to experience the island beyond its beaches, this Lombok Adventure is a must-do.
