Journey Through the Atlas Mountains

The allure of the Sahara Desert had always beckoned me, and the Desert Luxury adventure promised a unique blend of luxury and authenticity. Our journey began in Marrakesh, where we were picked up near our riad and transferred to a larger van. The group was diverse, with most speaking Portuguese, but language barriers melted away as we shared the excitement of the journey ahead.

Our first stop was a scenic spot for coffee, a perfect introduction to the breathtaking vistas of the Atlas Mountains. The drive through the mountains was nothing short of spectacular, with each turn revealing a new panorama. We paused at Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where our guide, Hamid, ensured we understood the rich history and significance of this ancient village. The day concluded at the Dades Hotel, a charming oasis with a pool and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The hospitality was warm, and the Moroccan tea served upon arrival was a delightful touch.

Embracing the Desert

The following morning, we set off for the Todra Gorge, a dramatic canyon that left us in awe of nature’s artistry. Here, we had the opportunity to try on traditional Berber clothing, a fun cultural experience that added to the day’s adventures. As we continued our journey, the anticipation of reaching the Merzouga Desert grew. The option to take a quad bike to the camp was irresistible, and the thrill of riding through the dunes was an unforgettable highlight.

Upon arrival at the luxury camp, we were welcomed with tea and the promise of a camel ride at golden hour. The camp itself was a marvel, with spacious tents equipped with private bathrooms and air conditioning—a perfect blend of comfort and desert authenticity. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we embarked on a camel ride, the golden sands glowing in the fading light. Later, we gathered around a campfire, where traditional music filled the air, and the stars above provided a mesmerizing backdrop.

Our final day began with an early start, as we made our way back to Marrakesh. The drive was long, but the memories of the past days kept our spirits high. We made several stops along the way, allowing us to stretch our legs and savor the last glimpses of the desert landscape. Hamid, our attentive guide, ensured our comfort throughout, capturing candid moments that he later shared with us.
