Great day with Driss! - The tour was an eye-opener to the life outside of busy Marrakesh, into the Atlas mountains where the Berber people live. The winding valley is uniquely beautiful, and much greener than I'd have expected, and full of weeping willows and winding streams of clear water. Visiting the Berber family beside the Ourika valley was a highlight - seeing thier beautiful house full of traditional wares, eating yummy snacks and seeing how authentic mint tea is made. Another highlight was the short (but vigorous!) trek to see the waterfalls near the town of Setti Fatma, the panoramic views of that part of the valley, and the Berber towns dotted on the hills. The guide to the top is an extra cost if you want to go up to the fourth waterfall. Coming back down, we had a GREAT lunch (at extra cost) next to the river. It was the perfect way to catch our breath, people watch, and enjoy a tagine or soup while listening to the flowing water. Other stop-offs included a stop to see Argan oil and herb production and shop, a clay pottery production and shop, and a camel-ride stop off (not obligated to ride but you can of you want). Throughout the day, our driver, Driss, navigated us from each stop at a smooth and relaxed pace. He was very accommodating and super friendly, and it was great chatting with him about all the local sights - his English is very good! My wife and I were really happy we chose to go with the private option. Fun times!
