Highlights
  • 9 Derb nakhka - After meeting at our meeting point, we will have a short tour of a local market near our house to buy vegetables and all the other ingredients we will need to cook.

Then we go to our house, where we first teach you how to make fresh mint tea and have it together while we get to know each other. Next, we start cooking by starting with the dish that takes the most time to cook because we will put it on fire while making other dishes. We will all work together as one team to make different dishes, and this helps you learn more than just a specific dish. We will normally be making different tagines. It could be with veggies, chicken, beef, or meat balls. We also make couscous at our workshop, but it would be better if you had specified that before the cooking class.

We will also have a tea break in between, and we might go to the rooftop of our house to have a panoramic view over the medina and to see the landscapes of the Atlas Mountains.
We share recipes after class as a document for the dishes we make and many other dishes.

Additional Information

Embark on a culinary journey with our cooking class in Marrakech for a distinctive experience. This 4-hour journey not only elevates your culinary prowess but also imparts knowledge about Moroccan gastronomic customs and past.

Before we begin tossing pans, we’ll tour a local market to gather vegetables and all necessary cooking ingredients (Market tours are off on Friday afternoons). Then we’ll unwind and get acquainted over a cup of fresh mint tea.

Next, we dive into the cooking phase. Here, travelers are tutored on various cooking techniques such as peeling, chopping, and seasoning tagines with the appropriate spices, much like our grandmothers and mothers do in their kitchens. In the process, we’ll engage in in-depth discussions about Moroccan cultures, customs, and historical facts.

Travelers will collaborate to prepare a variety of dishes. By using assorted spices and Ras El Hanout, they get to learn more than just one specific recipe.

To culminate, it’s time to savor the fruits of your labor and enjoy the dishes you’ve created.

Excellent cooking class - I’m so glad that I joined the cooking class with chef Hassan. It’s obvious he loves sharing his knowledge of Moroccan cooking with the rest of the world. He’s kind, fun, helpful, and passionate. We prepared several dishes together and every one of them is delicious. He also provided the menu so we can cook at home. It’s such a wonderful experience. I’d recommend anyone to take his class.

Brilliant experience. - There were 7 of us (4 English and 3 French) but Hassan did well and explained everything in both languages. Everyone was involved and we made 3 meat dishes, 1 vegetarian dish and a couple of side dishes. Hassan explained why things were cooked in a certain way and after we had eaten our dishes we had the opportunity to purchase tagines at a very reasonable price (mush cheaper than in the market). I would definitely recommend and this is one of the best cookery courses we have done on our holidays

You have to book! - If you’re coming to Marrakech, please book this cooking class with Hassan. Both Amhed and Hassan were passionate about what they were doing and were extremely nice and accommodating. Hassan is patient and makes sure everyone is included in the process. Learned so much about Moroccan culture and met other travelers that were all friendly. At the end, we ate the food together and it felt like a big family dinner. The food tasted amazing—better than some restaurants I tried. Overall, 10/10!

An experience worth having! - This was a great experience! The information I received beforehand was accurate and reflected the experience. Make sure you find the right pharmacy, not all drivers drive to the right place. But Google maps shows the right way. It is easy to get there by car. Ahmed met us punctually at the pharmacy as described. We shopped for food in the local stalls not far from the house where Ahmed and Hassan live and work. This struck me as an area of the old town that was more for the locals than tourists. The kitchen where we were taught was clean and well suited to the purpose. Ahmed gave us a good introduction to how to make proper mint tea - no, it's not just boiling some water and letting the tea steep for a few minutes. This was fascinating to learn. We made four different main courses + two side dishes. We learned a lot about the use of spices and how it is wise to prepare different types of meat. Vegetarian was also on the menu. Hassan is an educational chef with lots of good humor and the ability to handle several things at the same time so that everything went as it should. We were all involved in all the processes. These were four very nice hours with good teachers and nice fellow students. This is an activity that is well suited for couples, friends or alone.

Learnt about Moroccan cuisine - It was good to eat the food after our hard work cooking it. More water and air conditioning would have been good. Also would be good to sit down during the cooking.
