Highlights
  • Jardin Majorelle - The Majorelle Garden was first created by the French painter Jacques Majorelle in 1923. He had built a villa for himself there and expanded his property buying further parcels of land crowded with the painter’s botanical collection from all over the world.
After the death of Majorelle , the garden was neglected and abandoned until it was discovered by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé who had restored the house, enriched the botanical garden and brought them to their former glory.
The villa Studio is now home to a Berber Culture Museam which contains the best of YSL personal collection of Berber items like authentic hand made silver jewelry , antique ceramic, rugs and other pieces of art.
  • Koutoubia Mosque - The Koutoubia Minaret is the most famous landmark of Marrakech. It is attached to the Koutoubia mosque which is built in the late 12th century . It’s not particularly very high but it towers over the Medina of Marrakech thanks to a long- standing law that forbids any other buildings in the city to rise above the Koutoubia.
  • Bahia Palace - The Bahía Palace is a late 19th century palace which is most famous for its finest decoration. Its walls feature stucco carved with beautiful Arabic calligraphy , geometric patterns and arabesque designs. The ceilings are well decorated with the carved cedar wood from the middle Atlas Mountains . The ground is designed and decorated with the hand made tiles referred to as Zallij with beautiful colours originally from natural resources like minerals and plants.
  • Mellah - The Mellah of Marrakech was created by decree of the Sultan Abdallah al-Ghalib of the Saadian dynasty in 1558, outside of the walls of El Badi Palace. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the Mellah was one of the main commercial areas of Marrakech old Medina.
It was inhabited in the past by Jews who are expelled from the Iberian peninsula after the reconquista.
  • Souk Haddadine - Discover the most authentic blacksmith workshops and enjoy unique panoramic photos.
  • Medina of Marrakesh - Visit of a Communal Oven (bakery)
Visit of a Farnachi ( part of the Moroccan hammam)
Visit of a local market of fruits and vegetables.
    Visit of olives market
  • Jemaa el-Fnaa - Visit of the famous Jamaa El Fna square . Enjoy walking and learning about the secrets and history of this traditional caravans meeting point.
  • Souk Semmarine - At the heart of Marrakech , filling the alleys north of the central square , are the souks , mile after constricted mile of tiny, closet-sized emporia. The sheer number of the shops is overwhelming , 100 of them in 100 yards. Every section of the Souks has its speciality , with alleys devoted to everything from spices and ironwork to the ingredients necessary for casting magic spells.

Do This Your First Day, Sets The Tone - This is a must do for anyone visiting Marrakech and planning to engulf themselves in the true Moroccan culture. Major tip one, do this the first full day you arrive. It will bring you up to speed on the pace and tips to navigate the Medina as well as the key instagram worthy hot spots. Major tip two, request Hassan. Hassan and our driver Kareem are able to get your tickets to avoid lines, cut the long lines, and negotiate fair prices. They speak perfect English, Hassan talks slightly fast, but will repeat himself when needed. They come to your Riad or hotel and it’s first class all the way. For the whole day. Major tip three, start as early as possible. Things get crowded and the good photo ops are easy to jam up. Wear your best walking shoes, because everything in Marrakesh involves walking at some point and stairs at another. Hassan will also follow up with you in WhatsApp for any thing you may regret not doing or any tips on other excursions. He has good relationships with the community, and he prides himself in shielding his guests from any hassle/haggle vibes. More importantly the Medina is filled with friendly people who love to converse with tourists. Major tip four, watch yourself. Scooters are allowed every where in this city, even side walks. Be careful when crossing streets and alley ways.

Highlights of Marrakesh - Our guide was Mustafa who was an absolutely fantastic guide! A really well balanced tour seeing all the highlights of Marrakesh as well as the souks and local tradespeople in a lovely air conditioned car and friendly driver. Mustafa brought Marrakesh alive for us with lots of interesting information and stories. He looked after our family and made sure that we were all comfortable and having a good time. Would definitely recommend.

Marvellous Marrakech - We were collected from our hotel and had a fabulous time with our tour guide Rachid in an air conditioned car. Rachid was so helpful and knowledgeable. We learnt a lot about the culture and history of Marrakech. The Majorelle Garden was stunning. Not sure we would have found our way back from the colourful, scentful Souks without Rachid's help! We wouid highly recommend this tour.

Fantastic day with Hassan! - We had a wonderful experience with Hassan! He provided such attentive and professional service. He started by asking us what our needs and wants were and then delivered them all! It was our first time and day in Morocco and what a great way to start by spending it with Hassan. He is warm and caring and knowledgeable about Morocco and its history and culture. Having a private tour with Hassan is the only way to go - we very much recommend it!

Tour around Marrakesh - Tour guide was lovely, he was knowledgeable and gave us lots of history during our tour. It was a packed tour. There was a lot to see. it was a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. The last stop on the tour was the gardens which was fabulous. The only down side was that the guide took us to a rug vendor in the souk. I felt like I had to purchase a rug. It would have been better if the guide asked us what we wanted to see. Other wise it was a wonderful tour. I would highly recommend.

Half the day spent with scammy, aggressive shopkeepers - The guide Mustafa is very knowledgeable and friendly and used to be the official guide for many upscale hotels. However, when I paid the $350 price for the day tour I expected to be insulated from any unpleasantries. This was not the case. Although we skipped the line at the historic sites I wanted to visit, we spent half the day visiting “his friends shops” whose owners made me feel very uncomfortable. At two out of the 5 shops we visited, the clerk grabbed my arm as I was making my way to leave demanding that I give them a “final price” or “give me your best price”. One of them followed me down the block and did this in the street which I found to be extremely upsetting especially after I made it very clear I did not intend to buy anything. I had hoped for $350 that the guide would be able to prevent or at least put a stop to this behavior, but he conveniently turned a blind eye in these cases. In the US, this is considered assault but in Morocco it is apparently considered standard business conduct and guides clearly have a deal with these shops and most likely profit from it. I would not return and certainly not pay this kind of money to be subjected to violence.
