Highlights
  • 29 Rue Riad Laarous - In this bicycle tour, our non profit project Pikala, gives you the experience to discover Marrakech on a bicycle. Your bicycle guides will be local young Moroccans who are trained by pikala and will introduce you to the Moroccan daily life and give you more explanation about growing up in Morocco, the importance of the family and how to deal with religion and modernisation.

You will cycle through different neighbourhoods of Marrakech like the historical city centre ‘Medina’ and the new town ‘Gueliz’. On our way we will pass some of the highlights of the city like the Koutoubia, the Kasbah and the Agdal gardens, but even more important is to take you to parts of the city where you wouldn’t normally come.
You will visit a local public bakery and a old traditional bathhouse called the Hammam. Juice and sweets are included in the tour at the very special cross cultural “cafe clock”, visit the enormous second hand market and finish with a visit the tumb of one of the seven Saints of Marrakech.

Please cycle with us and support our social project!

It’s healthy, fun and a unique experience!

Additional Information

As the originator of the socially-driven educational project Pikala, which is non-profit, I hail from the Netherlands. Our mission is to harness the power of cycling to offer complimentary education and avenues for Moroccan young people to become either cycle guides or bike mechanics. Despite Morocco’s youthful demographic, it’s uncommon to interact with them as a tourist in the country. To address this, I’ve equipped gifted youngsters to personally acquaint visitors with Moroccan culture and deliver narratives from this emerging Moroccan generation.

Excellent introduction to Marrakech - Mo and his colleagues did a great job guiding us through the fairly intense Marrakech. Definitely recommended for an introduction to the city.

One of the highlights of our trip to Marrakech - We were a group of 5 friends on a long weekend trip to Marrakech and the City Cycling Tour was a fantastic way to start our holiday and get orientated. Yissir supported by Ismail did a perfect job of introducing us to sights and sounds of such an exciting city. We saw parts of Marrakech that we would never have found on our own and hearing Yissir’s personal stories, for example around his experiences bringing the family dough to the community bakery when he was a child, brought it all to life. We can highly recommend. Thank you

A great way to see the city - We had a fun ride through the busy streets of Marrakech. The roads and streets were very busy and it was slightly interesting navigating the crowds, but our guide fatima made sure we were all together and lead the way. A great way to see the city

Nice way to explore parts of the old city - Thanks for the nice tour by Zouhiar. His guidance was charming and informative. Highly recommend it. Be aware that the traffic can be difficult for untrained bikers.

Must do in Marrakech - We had a great tour! Yesser is a very enthusiastic tour guide and told us a lot. This gave us an impression of daily life in Marrakech. It was nice that this tour takes you to places that you would otherwise not go to. You are amazed and the cycling was also easy. Saw a lot of the medina and a bit of the new city. We also had lunch afterwards at the Pikala café, which is also highly recommended. An oasis of peace, lovely place and good food. It's nice to be able to support the canvas behind it in this way

Top experience!! - A wonderful ride through Marrakech. Both the medina and the new city are discussed. And what a guide! She is a biology student, sweet, inspiring, cheerful, positive, very honest and open about life in the medina with her family. Highly recommended! After the bike ride we were offered a refreshing drink with something sweet. That was also great! Both the location, the juice and the cookies.

Pikala tour of Marrakech - What an amazing experience which took us off the beaten track and to areas of Marrakech that we otherwise wouldn't have seen. Our guide gave us a great insight in to Moroccan traditions and culture which was fascinating. Bit hair-raising at first until I got used to the crazy traffic but great fun and very surreal at times when cycling past donkeys whilst dodging motorcycles and scooters. Loved every minute of it.

Beautiful way to explore Marrakech - “A very nice experience to cycle through the busy Medina of Marrakech and get to know the city better. It was our first day of the holiday, a perfect start to get a good overview of the city. The guide was Dutch, had lived in Marrakech for a long time, knew the city well and was familiar with the culture, which is always nice because it gives an extra dimension to the stories. However, we found that we had to cycle a lot between stops. We love cycling, but that was not the main purpose of this trip; the primary goal was to show the beautiful places of the city. Our advice is to drive fewer kilometers and make more stops. For example, we did not stop at the Koutoubia Mosque, and we did not cycle past the Bahia Palace. What I didn't like was that the guide was very negative about the Netherlands when comparing Moroccan and Dutch life/culture. I didn't think this was appropriate; it does not contribute to the cycling trip. It's nice to tell something about the culture, but keep it general and positive. Avoid unnecessary discussions. To be honest, it left a bad taste in my mouth.
