Let me, Alfredo, be your guide to the world of organic farming, delicious local cuisine and the beauty of our panoramic farm.\n\nAs we explore the farm’s seasonal fruits, vegetables, aromatic herbs, and edible flowers, I’ll share my passion for organic farming, which has been honed over three decades of dedicated work. \n\nTo toast to the farm’s bounty, we’ll enjoy a glass of our green wine, made with love and care from the vineyards on our farm.\n\nThen, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get cooking! Together, we’ll prepare a three-course traditional Portuguese meal, with your choice of fish, meat (from our farm) or vegetarian. Phenomenal experience made better by an excellent teacher and host - This was truly one of the highlights of our week long trip to Porto! Having done numerous cooking classes throughout Europe and America, I can wholeheartedly say that Alfredo was one of, if not the, best experiences my wife and I have had. Despite only hosting the two of us on Easter Sunday, Alfredo did not cancel and in fact went out of his way to call us to make sure we had a ride to his place from the train stop! Once there, he welcomed us with wine, cheeses, fava beans, olives, and vino verde (my wife does not drink so he made fresh blueberry juice as well!). Following this, we took a lovely tour of his farm, where we met his 7 rescue dogs (who all adore him) and saw everything from the vineyards to the baby geese and pigs to his beehives. Finally we came back inside to cook 4 very traditional dishes using mostly ingredients from his farm! The meal started with a lovely tomato onion soup that was not only super tasty, but super easy to make. It followed with a dish of codfish, French fries (freshly made from his potatoes) and scrambled eggs (freshly collected from his chickens!). Finally we made a lovely custard dessert as well as a Aletria Doce (a sweet noodle based dessert). We walked off the food and drink along his farm until it was time for our train. Alfredo kindly packed us all the leftovers (which we eagerly consumed over the next few days given how tasty and fresh it was) and dropped us off at the train station before saying good bye. One of the best added benefits was simply sitting and chatting with Alfredo and hearing how his 300 year old farm and house has grown over the years. Hearing about the struggles he has faced in recent times with covid and climate change ruining much of the traditional crops and grapes helped put in perspective why he has opened the cooking experience (to keep finding his farm which he remains passionate about). This was a once in a lifetime experience in the doura valley that I will wholeheartedly recommend to anyone visiting the area!

We had the best day on Alfredo’s farm! - If you want to take a cooking class while in Portugal, this one is as authentic as they come! Located in the Douro Valley, amazing views and peaceful nature surrounding the farm. We took the train from Porto and then a cab from the train station - had no issues getting there. Alfredo is an amazing human being! We booked very last minute and he was able to accommodate us well. Welcomed us onto his farm with open arms. Wine and a 4 course meal was included. Recipes were easy with the capability to do them at home. Along with the food we toured the farm and met all of his animals including the friendliest rescue dogs!! We cannot thank you enough for the wonderful experience.

ATTN: WELL WORTH EXPERIENCE, MUST EXPERIENCE!! - If I could rate this place 10 Stars, I would⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!! This was thee most AUTHENTIC place/space for a REAL Portuguese experience. It was HUMANISM at its finest, where you’re instantly in a moment of grassroots quick integration of getting to know people in an intimate environment! You need to come to Quinta de Louredo and dive into the moment with Alfredo and his menagerie of farm animals, fruit and vegetable farm, and get a feel of sustainable farming. Located in the Doro Valley, Quinta de Louredo gives you a feel of what life was like 100 years ago. The Tia, aunty, who helped cook, was an elder who cooks in a brick oven in a traditional style, unique to region. The sweet and whole grain breads, fruit spreads, smoked sausage, and salted beans were very scrumptious. Verde wine from the farm, Mika (if available due to Fall harvest), was a refreshing delight the entire time we were there. Reminder everyone, you can ONLY GET VERDE WINE IN PORTUGAL! The end product of a four course meal consisting of green potato soup, turnip/sausage, watercress salad, pork/batatas, custard, and sweet noodles were amazing! Hands down must experience!! I would love to come back during the summer and just help out around the farm and dive into conscience sustainable farming, I’m mind, body, and soul. Mucho mahalo to Alfredo and his ‘Ohana for sharing their paradise with us! 😘😘😘

Wonderful Experience - My family and I had the most amazing day at Quinta de Louredo. Touring the farm, helping prepare the meal, and playing with the dogs will be a memory we will be talking about for a long time. Alfredo was a gracious host, and we really enjoyed the food and learning all about the quinta.

A Unique, Beautiful, and Memorable Experience! - My fiancé and I traveled to Portugal for the first time and this tour was the first of four that we booked while we were here. The reviews of this experience were so promising, I could not pass up the opportunity to see it for myself. Let’s just say, it did not disappoint. First and foremost, our host. Alfredo is an exceptionally kind, funny, gentle, and generous human. He goes out of his way to make all of his guests feel welcomed at his quinta. Even more, he truly wants all who pass by to feel like they are family. He loves learning about other peoples culture, and enjoys sharing the tradition and culture of the Portuguese. Along with his six rescue dogs (who are so sweet and friendly), geese, pigs, cow, and chickens; you can really get a sense of how the Portuguese lived in the old days. His farm is approximately 300 years old and is so charming. I would argue that it is a little slice of heaven. Second…the landscape…WOW! Absolutely breathtaking! Nestled among rolling mountains and hills, the views are marvelous. Our tour happened on a day when the sun decided to come out, allowing for us to truly explore the grounds and be one with nature. Alfredo’s quinta boasts 60-acres of land which produces so much food. Lemons, clementine, grapes, plums, peaches, strawberries, kale, lettuce, beets, onions, potatoes, cauliflower, and the list goes on and on! I could not believe my eyes. Finally, and not to be understated…the food. It was OUTSTANDING! What can I say? Everything we cooked came from the farm. We started with appetizers that included homemade bread, crackers, cheese, and a variety of jams. These were washed drown with an incredibly tasty organic/vegan wine made from the grapes that came from the farm. After our appetizer and farm tour, we picked a few clementines, lemons, and collected eggs that were to be used for lunch. We then headed to the kitchen to get cooking! Lunch included a fresh tomato soup, a traditional salted cod dish with potato and egg, and finally two desserts! A sweet noodle dish and a milk custard. Everything we made together was as fresh as can be. Made with simple ingredients, and lots of laughter and love. It was a meal that I will never forget. It has not been easy for Alfredo. Health concerns along with climate change and the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on his ability to maintain his farm. So much so, he has questioned whether to sell it or not. That said, this cooking class and tour experience is how Alfredo has been able to afford to keep up the maintenance of the farm, and keep it from being sold to someone who would not have the same mission of organic agriculture which is meant to improve the environment. By booking this experience, you are doing much more than creating new memories to cherish forever. You are doing more than enjoying great food and establishing a new friendship. You are ensuring that this farm endures on and continues to produce quality products without chemicals or shady business practices. So, do yourself a favor…take the drive and support this local farm. You will get much more than you would ever thought!

Highlight of Our Portugal Trip - We recently returned from a one-week trip to Portugal. By far the highlight of our trip was the afternoon we spent with Alfredo on his farm. Visiting different parts of the world, and seeing the beauty these places have to offer is fantastic. But the real treasure is getting to know the people and being able to connect on a personal level. And in Alfredo we found a kindred spirit – someone that truly cares for this planet and all of its inhabitants. Upon arrival we were greeted by Alfredo’s menagerie of rescue dogs and cats. This friendly group followed us throughout the day on our tour of his farm, and we could tell how much they loved him. The view from Alfredo‘s piece of heaven in the mountains is absolutely stunning. We wondered through his fields and sampled fresh strawberries, pears, apples, figs, and walnuts. After the tour we prepared lunch and dessert in Alfredo’s very warm and welcoming farmhouse kitchen. You really get to connect with someone and their culture when you spend time cooking with them and sharing a meal. We prepared two traditional desserts, a tomato soup, and a very filling dish made with dried cod in the Portuguese style. All of it was delicious! It was topped off with some incredible, vegan wine that Alfredo makes from the grapes in his vineyard. I’ve made the tomato soup twice since I’ve returned to the states. It’s my favorite now, and reminds me of the time we spent with Alfredo. I cannot recommend this tour enough! Just getting to know Alfredo, learning his story, and his passion for helping others made our trip. Not only did we have an amazing experience, but we’ve gained a new friend.
