Lots of highlights - A great day out with many experiences along the route to pick and choose from. Lovely to be able to hear through headphones provided about the many landmarks and fascinating facts. The recorded guide voice was perfect which is a rarity. I must say I greatly appreciated the drivers of these buses that had to navigate their way through traffic, badly parked cars and still arriving on/just before time at each destination. They made clear call outs at stops. I asked confirming questions as I departed at marsaxslokk and blue grotto the driver was polite and friendly though must be continually asked these questions and all on a Sunday too. This was a really enjoyable way to view and get a feel of Malta. Thank you for a great day out.

Bus tour of Malta - The very valuable experience of being able to see Malta from the top of a bus on a warm and sunny day.

Tacking the south tour ... - The Malta sightseeing southern tour is also a very good option - should you like this type of hop-on hop-off kind of tours. It starts in Sliema - first bus leaves at 9:30 and if you want to be benefit the most of the tour I recommend you aim for the first bus departing. It stops in Valletta- although I recommend you visit Valletta with a different means of transport - because you can spend easily several days visiting all the landmarks and spots of Valletta. Hypogeum - although you should book in advance - because there is no guarantee that you can enter - they only sell limited amount of tickets per they for this place. Marsaxlokk Fishing Village - is a recommended stop well worth the 1 hour wait between the 2 buses - we've visited the spot on a previous visit to Malta -so no stop here. Ghar Dalam is also a nice spot to visit - on the southern rout. Blue Grotto - was very interesting and also very nice to visit. Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples - here we also stopped - a very nice prehistoric site to visit. Overall - for my perspective a tour that is worth taking and it does include some of the most interesting sports to be checked out on the southern part of the island of Malta.

South island hop on hop off bus - This south island tour spends a lot of time driving through and around more built up areas of the island compared with the north island tour. Lots of good stops on the way around but you need to book for some of the attractions and off season, other attractions not open. Upper level very windy and exposed so don't forget sunscreen, scarf and hat. Can be cold in the late afternoon.

It's quite good, but be aware that you may have to wait at some stops - The good things we found were that the commentary was good and informative and pointed out the stops. The headphones we found we good and worked on lots of different seats on the several buses we were on. We visited Ghar Dalam, Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples and our lunch stop at the Blue Grotto, unfortunately it was too windy for the boats to operate. Remember that you won't be able to visit all the stops on a day. Pick the ones you want beforehand, factor in that the Blue Grotto boats are weather dependent and the limestone quarry seems to finish before the 2nd last bus arrives, certainly in autumn. We found that to do the museum and both temples at Hagar Qim in an hour would be very tight indeed certainly to do them justice. We had two hours there and fitted in ice cream etc. We would only tour around Valletta and area as you can get there separately using public transport and enjoy the many sights at your leisure. In Marsalokk fishing village there is a little stop for a photo opportunity, which would be enough here unless you want lunch in the fish restaurants in the area. The open top bus is windy and can be very windy mind this on when considering headgear. Cooler inside but poorer views for sure. Now the downside, the bus picking us up In Valletta was late, the congestion early in the mornings is kinda grim, plus and inconsiderate bus driver has left his bus blocking part of the road resulting in a bottleneck as well. The buses seemed to be late all the rest of the day i imagine with the traffic and dodgy parking it would be a challenge to catch up any time. As you are wary about missing the bus and having to wait an extra hour you maybe do tend to get to the bus stop early which when they are late means extra waiting and that is a frustrating time that you feel is being wasted, fine if you can fit in snacks, drink or a break say in Blue Lagoon or Hagar but not so much Ghar Dalam. All in all it's worth doing with a little planning and very good if the buses are on time. every half hour would be better. There also other buses doing this route One is all red these buses are red with a white stripe between lower and upper decks. This can be confusing if you can only see the front or top of the busses coming and surprisingly annoying when its not your one.

An opportunity missed? - A little disappointed. Considering the rich heritage and history the commentary as we drove round was a bit sparse in places and the quality of “earphones” was pretty poor to be honest. It’s also important to remember that this service does not run on the “ every 30 minutes” as stated! Cost had increased between our visit in June and our return in August! It’s still a good way to see this splendid Island!

Bad experience - Nice trip around Malta spoiled by driver who didn’t stop where we needed despite being told as”it was on wrong side of road”. Eventually dropped 2.6 km and told to wait 30 minutes for next bus that would take us to correct stop as driver was finishing…. Really???

Waste of money. - Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews first now I regret. It was a huge waste of my money, the best option is to take a regular bus. It wasn't the cheapest trip, the bus was dirty, the headset didn't work properly, of you're lucky it's still not the best quality, to hear anything even when listening to the audio in your mother language. Don't take the bus when it make the last round, they are not prepared for that many people. I don't recommend. 60% of time was visiting something villages with no attractions. And the whole trip takes around 3 or 4h with no getting off. So be prepared and have something to eat and drink because there is no place to buy anything if you don't want get off , but continue the trip.

Overall Disappointing - I find the Hop On Hop Off tours a really useful way of seeing and learning about important sights. This tour was quite disappointing in comparison to others I have done. This wasn't completely unexpected, having read previous reviews. The buses did not run on time, however, it was explained to me that the traffic in Malta can get quite heavy at times so it was difficult to keep to scheduled times - I agree with this, however, what made it worse was that during August, the buses are every hour (due to the hot weather) rather than every half hour. Every bus we waited for was late, with our longest wait being over an hour! When on the bus, the audio was a bit hit and miss. I noticed a lot of people didn't bother with the earphones. There were no instructions or information telling you what channel you needed for the language you required. There were a lot of silences - not sure if this was because it hadn't been switched on, or whether there were long pauses - if the latter, it would be useful to fill these in with information or at least play music - just so you know that you are tuned in correctly. I honestly felt I learnt more about Malta from our taxi driver to the airport than I did from this tour. On a positive note, the tours do take you to all the key sights - there are so many to choose from, that realistically you don't have time to do more than 2/3 in a day (the last buses seemed to be at 5pm). We chose to do Marsaxlokk and the Blue Grotto but ended up not getting off at Marsaxlokk due to time limitations (we didn't start out until 11.30am).

Use the local buses instead! - Bus was dirty and the audio didn't work at either if the seats we were sat at and as it was busy we couldnt get anotherseat on the top deck. The driver didnt inform us as to the places we were at so also missed some of the stops! Save yourself money and just travel on the local bus. A total waste of money as far as our experience went!
