- Portuguese Square - Malacca is a captivating destination in Malaysia, showcasing a unique blend of Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences. Visitors can explore Portuguese Square, also known as ‘Mini Lisbon’, and A Famosa, a small gate that remains from a once grand Portuguese fortress. This site is the oldest surviving European architectural structure in Asia and was designated a “World Heritage Site” in July 2008 due to its rich historical significance.
- A Famosa Fort - Located in Malacca, Malaysia, A Famosa is a former Portuguese fortress and one of the oldest European architectural remnants in Southeast Asia and the Far East. The Porta de Santiago, a small gatehouse, is the only surviving part of the fortress today.
- St. Paul’s Hill & Church (Bukit St. Paul) - St. Paul’s Church, situated in Malacca City, Malaysia, is a historic church building originally constructed in 1521. It holds the distinction of being the oldest church building in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
- Red Square (Dutch Square) - Dutch Square Malacca, located along Jalan Kota, is renowned for its picturesque setting. It serves as a vibrant trishaw pickup point and is characterized by a cluster of bright, terracotta-red colonial Dutch buildings, constructed between 1660 and 1700, featuring louvered windows and robust doors with wrought iron hinges. A central fountain, an ornate Victorian marble piece erected in 1904 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, dominates the area. Dutch Square’s most notable building is the Stadthuys, completed in 1660, and is considered the oldest-existing Dutch building in the East.
- Jonker Street - Known as Jalan Hang Jebat or Jonker Walk, this street is located in the historic Chinatown of Melaka, just across the river from Dutch Square. Jonker Walk is lined with heritage houses dating back to the 17th century, once home to affluent Baba Nonyas (also known as Peranakans, descendants of 15th-16th century Chinese immigrants who married local Malay women). Today, the street features numerous shops selling antiques, textiles, handicrafts, and souvenirs, similar to those found at Central Market in Kuala Lumpur. On weekends, starting Friday night at 6 pm, the road is closed to traffic and transforms into a bustling night market. The famous Chicken Rice Ball dish is also available here, near the bridge at the start of Jonker Walk.
