Arrival at the Hidden Gem

As soon as I heard about the Private Beach Getaway nestled in the heart of Mahahual, I knew I had to experience it for myself. The allure of a secluded beach, far from the bustling crowds, was too tempting to resist. The journey to Xahuayxol was a scenic 35-minute drive from the Costa Maya port, and as we approached, the anticipation of discovering this “garden in the sea” was palpable.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by Teresa and her team, whose warmth and hospitality set the tone for the day. The beach was indeed a paradise, with its panoramic views and the gentle ocean breeze that seemed to whisper tales of the ancient Mayans. I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the ocean, reminiscent of my days riding the waves as a professional surfer.

A Feast for the Senses

The culinary delights at Xahuayxol were nothing short of spectacular. As someone who has traveled extensively across the Caribbean, I can confidently say that the guacamole, ceviche, and tacos served here were among the best I’ve ever tasted. The fresh-made tortilla chips were the perfect accompaniment, and the drinks flowed freely, enhancing the laid-back vibe of the day.

As I savored each bite, I was joined by Carmella and Tiga, the resident beach dogs who added a touch of charm to the experience. Their friendly demeanor and playful antics were a delightful addition to the day, making it feel even more like a home away from home.

Adventures in the Sea

No trip to Xahuayxol would be complete without exploring the vibrant marine life that surrounds this beautiful beach. Armed with a snorkel and a sense of adventure, I waded through the seaweed—a minor inconvenience for the treasures that lay beyond. The underwater world was teeming with life, and the barrier reef provided a stunning backdrop for my aquatic exploration.

Kayaking was another highlight, offering a unique perspective of the coastline and a chance to soak in the tranquility of the surroundings. As the day drew to a close, I found myself reluctant to leave this slice of paradise. The private transportation back to the port was seamless, thanks to our driver Aguilar Pech, who even took us to local artisans for some last-minute shopping.
