Discovering the Ancient Wonders of Chacchoben

As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean’s rhythm and the stories it whispers. But every now and then, I find myself craving a different kind of adventure—one that takes me away from the waves and into the heart of history. That’s how I found myself in Mahahual, embarking on the Costa Maya Journey to explore the Mayan ruins and local gems.

The day began with a bit of a maze through the bustling shopping district near the cruise port. The vibrant energy of the place was infectious, but I was eager to meet Jhoana, our guide for the day. Once we found our way out, Jhoana greeted us with a warm smile and an enthusiasm that was contagious. Her knowledge of the area and the Mayan civilization was impressive, and I knew we were in for a treat.

Our journey to the Zona Arqueologica De Chaachoben was comfortable, thanks to Raoul, our friendly taxi driver. Tasting the fresh pineapple straight from the fields was a highlight of the journey, a burst of flavor that perfectly complemented the day’s adventures.

As we made our way back to Mahahual, the iconic lighthouse came into view, standing tall against the backdrop of the sea. It was the perfect spot to reflect on the day’s journey and soak in the stunning views.
