Paella and Sangria Class - My 32-year-old daughter, 23-year-old niece, and I had the pleasure of attending the paella and sangria class at the King of Paella in Madrid, Spain. We were there with another family which included a mom and her mother and eight year year-old son from Mexico. While the chef spoke Spanish, the assistant, along with him was bilingual in Spanish and English. They were both very friendly and knowledgeable and able to engage everyone in the class. The class is held in a small, but spacious and meticulously clean kitchen and dining area in Central Madrid in a space that they lease for this purpose. They started the class with how to prepare a delicious pitcher of sangria. We assisted with this. We were able to drink that throughout the class. Other beverages were available. During the class they came out with tapas which included anchovy stuffed olives, and the traditional toast with grated tomatoes and jambon. Then it was on to assisting the chef and preparing the paella . We all helped with that as well. He gave us the entire history of paella and explained all the ingredients and technique that goes into preparing it. He also showed us the different sizes of paella pans and the special rice you need to use. After about two hours we were eating our paella and the entire class was about 2 1/2 hours. The paella was absolutely delicious and all the recipes were emailed to us; along with all the photos that they took of us during the class. It was much more involved than I realized. We prepared a seafood paella, but there are other types you can prepare. We had a great time during this class, and really enjoyed learning about paella and sangria. I thought it was a very good value for all that we got out of it. I personally could not have eaten another thing when I left the class. If you like cultural experiences, this is a great one, and I would highly recommend it! both of the people that teach the class are excellent teachers, and really know their business.

Great experience making Paella! - Great experience! Our group of four enjoyed being part of Miguel and Chef Aurora’s kitchen. We drank sangria that we helped make, learned about the essentials of parella ( no chorizo!) and ate some delicious tapas and the paella. It’s an intimate setting - with friendly hosts who clearly enjoyed sharing their talents! Gracias!

Wonderful people and experience - Amazing experience. You get hands on experience making 2 types of sangria and participate in the making of a traditional Spanish Paella. The instructors were warm, funny and seemed like they were truly enjoying their work. It made for an enjoyable evening with my family. The one recommendation that I would make is for better signage. Once you arrive to the building there aren’t any signs instructing you where to go. Otherwise would do it again.

Perhaps our best experience after two weeks in Spain! - As you read this, you may think we are family or friends of the owners. But we are not - we are a mom, dad and our adult son who were looking for something to do on our final (and rainy) vacation day in Madrid. After two weeks traveling throughout Spain, this may have unexpectedly been our favorite activity! Here’s why: 1) Marco and Paolo (spelling?) were authentic and super easy to connect with; 2) the food - two tapas, sangria, and paella - were the best of our entire trip; 3) the experience (they had us actually help hands-on) was fun; 4) the setting and location was really nice and easy to access; and 5) they were super passionate about teaching us their food history and culture. Highly recommend! Note - Paolo has been doing this for a while (his wife is also a high-end accomplished chef at a premier hotel you would likely recognize), but he and Marco just moved into a new space one month ago, so they have fewer reviews than other cooking experiences we found on Travel Advisor / Viator, but do not let that bother you. Thanks again to Marco and Paolo and best of luck - call us if you are ever in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
